during the winter, this is probably a snowmobile trail... there are signs like that all over the woods where I live. Our trails, even the ones were ride ATV's on, have route numbers!

That’s my guess for the sign. The road (trail) itself dates back to the early 1800’s. It was a small farming community – the stone walls in an earlier picture were, I’m guessing, property lines. I have some shots a few pages ago of some old foundations along that road. They’ve recently began some serious logging so it’s hard to say what it will look like next year.
(sounds funny to hear “ATV” used… only 20 years ago everyone had “three wheelers”)
