| | | Me too, but probably for a different reason. I grew up with insomnia and as a child I watch that movie in the middle of many a night. I think that was my first, only and longest version of NYC. When I went there, decades later, I knew it wouldn't be like that, but it still was in my head. edit: I still have to buy the game. [last edit 5/14/2008 7:45 PM by Avatar-X - edited 2 times]

| | | I love how all the FNG's tell the old timers to go out and explore every time they mention something like this. The advice about Control doing his own thing, without some of the class of people he mentioned sounds, well, not very well thought out. I think that's exactly what he does. Maybe he was expressing his opinion, and a valid one too. It seems we get constantly preached to about how to do something we happen to be very good at and have been doing for a long time. What's wrong with the other side of the coin for once? And I couldn't have said it any better myself. I'd have a beer with this guy any time, maybe even two.
I drink gasoline for breakfeast and beer for dinner! Any problem can be licked with a case of beer and a few sticks of dynamite. Strategic Beer Command ruling the desert since 1995 http://www.strategic-beer-command.com |

| | | Posted by Control I remember when abandoned buildings were everywhere, and no one would ever consider driving to the next town much less the next state to explore something. People driving hundreds of miles to explore something good? Man, they must be crazy, or live in really fucking boring places. That's how it was...

Sorry, that's just wrong. I've been doing exactly that since the 70s. Why do so many New Yorkers think that they are the center of the universe? It's such a provincial attitude, something so many NY'rs accuse the rest of Americans as being. America is a big country and every state has stuff worth seeing. Get out and look around for yourself. Or better yet, don't. And I second Avatar X's comments on Control's reinterpretation of Ninjalicious's intentions and M.O. Don't be so arrogant. Thanks to X for setting the record straight. To me, that "Letting things go as they go" attitude about UE locations is one of the most important things about UE. I certainly aint no FNG, but dude, quit whining and just get out and do what you do.

| | | I remember when exploring was all about the fun and good times. |
UE was primal. UE was The Warriors. It was survival of the fittest. I remember carrying weapons and being ready to fight immediately. I remember when just looking at someone could spark a fight. I remember the scars, and the sick pleasure in leaving them on others. I remember the brothers that died. I remember Spook. I remember Seus. Maybe we'll meet again on the other side. |
Yeah, those definitely sound like good times, alright. It's too bad UE isn't more like that today. Your post kinda reminds me of that awful Jim Caroll song. Mary took a dry dive from a hotel room Bobby hung himself from a cell in the tombs Judy jumped in front of a subway train Eddie got slit in the jugular vein And Eddie, I miss you more than all the others And I salute you brother

|
Patty packed her bags, left a note for her momma, she was just seventeen. There were tears in her eyes when she kissed her little sister goodbye-ye-ye! ... Young hearts be free tonight! Time is on your side! Don't let 'em put you down, don't let 'em push you around, don't let 'em ever change your point of view... ... Billy wrote a letter back home to Patty's parents, Tryin' to explain. He said "We're both real sorry that it had to turn out this way. But there ain't no point in talkin' When there's nobody listenin' So we just ran away. Patty gave birth to a ten-pound baby boy --- Wooo!"

| | | I remember the first time I stumbled onto UER. I called my sister and said "your never gonna believe this . . . . . " I was shocked to see that it was actually a hobby to so many, and that there was even a name for it! When I was growing up we didn't sit in front of the TV, play video games all day or chat on the phone for hours. Our parents made us go outside and get some fresh air. Once we were sick and tired of playing kickball, catching frogs, and lighting shit on fire, we started going into abandoned buildings. I never brought a camera and as far as I was concerned, cops didn't bother with kids going into abandoned buildings. It was laid back and easy fun, and sometimes it was a bit scary which made it even better. For me, true explorers are the ones for whom it never dies. Doesn't matter how good your photos are, what kind of gear you carry, or what your punchlist of locations are. And I certainly didn't expect it to be a competition. I started "exploring" when I was a teenager and many, MANY years later I'm still going strong. Although I do appreciate the photos I see, some of which are quite breath taking; the stories I read, and the friends I've met, I agree that UE can mean something different to everyone. dont buy the game. I bought it, played it for about 20 mins and gave it away the next day. its a waste of money unless you can get it for under $5.00.
