I would say like... 99% or so of the people I know who display Confederate flags don't do it for any racist reasons whatsoever.

Most of them barely understand that it was the flag of the Confederacy in the first place, so how could they? Not like they're putting a huge amount of thought into it. They don't even call them Confederate flags. They always call them rebel flags. As in: I'm from the South, and I'm a rebel. Yee fuckin' haw.

The racist shit is a straw man for the most part, made by politically correct, oversensitive types.

I agree for the most part. Unfortunately, 99% or so of the people whom I know display the flag of the Confederate States of America (once an actual sovereign nation during the Civil War) are indeed from the southern states that were once a part of the Confederacy. This young man is not from the south and so that is why I gave him the advice that I did. Retire the flag; give it to someone from the south. I do not normally see that flag as a symbol of racism; it is often misconstrued. There are a great thousands of citizens of the now United States of America that fight to retain the meaning of Pride for country past and present, and I salute that. I do not believe that to be the case here, which I also believe to be the only case worth mentioning in this thread.

COMMIE!

Something tells me you were referring to me. You are wrong however, I am not a communist; I like money as much (probably more) than the next man and support the free market economy for the most part. However I do have a nice collection of Soviet Party pins, a Russian nesting doll of the Soviet leaders, and a few red star/hammer and sicle hat pins.

Only heroin addicts and toothless rednecks hang flags up on their walls. Which one are you?

Thats not fair to say.
There are lots of 13 year old rednecks that still have some teeth.

That flag has as much to do with bigotry and racism as Santa Clause has to do with Easter. Speaking as someone who actually lives in the south, you guys have been manipulated into believing the the confederate flag is a symbol of racism. But I Imagine most of you people don't even know the real history behind it or why the civil war was fought in the first place.
*hint - It was not about slavery

But it is still a boring shot.

Well said. I was trying to think about how to respond to that, but you did it for me. I hate it when people assume its racist. *THAT* in itself is racist.

And yes, the shot is boring.

Take pictures of everything. Show everyone. Listen to everyone with a grain of salt.

Actually, its still open. See? I just posted.

You know, I thought about it.. and I think that would be a way better picture if he left it the original color. Not black and white.

and if it wasn't wrinkled, well i might take it out side and fly it in the wind and snap a shot of it and see how it comes out, this was my first picture taken with my first camera so of course it isn't going to be great.

oh and you can't see all the stars

And if its a really nice day, the blue sky with lots of white clouds in the background would be pretty neat.

Ansel Adams's student told me once "You are going to take a lot of pictures, some bad, some good, but who's to know that you didn't take only good ones if they never see the rest?" Thank you, Ms. Captain Obvious.

Actually if anything...that whole setting would make it more cliche. The way it is right now with its quirky creases and off kiltered angel and poor judgement of b&w makes it...not cliche. not good. but not a cliche flag blowing proudly in the wind *barf*
