Edit: The flag is know as racism, because of the KKK flag that looks very similar to the Confederate flag.

I agree that it didn't start out as a symbol of racism, but it certainly has become one (like it or not). Same thing with the swastika. Symbols evolve and are adopted by different groups for different purposes (for example, the rainbow).

Also, some of the worst racists don't think of themselves as such, so it's hard to be objective. You can't really define a symbol, since they are dynamic. But it is safe to say that the Confederate Flag and racism are related.

Sure it's along with racism, but some people, including me, don't consider it as a racist symbol, but sadly it is a sign of racism in many different groups, and it will never be brought back as a sign of pride, except white pride lolz, in the north, however in the former confederate states it will be a symbol of southern pride for ever.

Like it or not, the pre-civil-war South and therefore the Confederate flag has become a symbol of racism and intolerance. It's not on the same level as the swastika, but to argue about the real reasons for the civil war and such is an exersize in futility.
Not a real big fan of regional pride and all that stupid bullshit anyway. If I was from the South I wouldn't display a confederate flag because of all the dumb bullshit they were involved with, regardless of why the civil war was fought. By the same token, I don't really go around waving the current US flag in people's faces because of all the stupid bullshit we're involved in now. Group-think and nationalism leads to stupidity. Don't-motherfucking-tread-on-me...thats about the last time I would have waved a flag.
