Bishop and Nomeus were arrested at this motel in Lakeland, FL on 2/28/07. They are being charged with loitering/prowling which is a misdemeanor and in addition, Nomeus is charged with having burglary tools which is a felony charge. His "tools" were his flashlight, gloves and a Gerber multitool that he always has on him no matter where he is.

They were arrested at about 8pm that night and sat in the booking center for almost 12hrs. After that they were moved into the jail with the general population. Nomeus was able to bail out the next day and Bishop made bail the day after. On the way back from picking up Bishop from jail, a young aggressive driver intentionally rammed the passenger side of Nomeus’ car, almost forcing his car into the guard rail. The driver tried to flee the scene but it just so happened that an off duty officer from Jacksonville saw the whole thing happen and chased the driver down, forcing him to stop.

The past few days have been very intense for these two guys, especially Nomeus. We wish them the best and they would like to give a huge thank you for all of those that have helped out so far and are showing their support during this rough time.

We are inviting everyone to show up at the courthouse to show their support. It will be on April 3rd at 8:15am. The address is 255 N. Broadway Ave. Bartow, FL 33830. Please dress accordingly if you come.

Just to let you know the first date probably wont be the actual trial itself. It will probably be just a role call, then probably a few more, before your case sees court. At least for the felony charge. They might run the misdemeanors faster but I doubt it.

MM there will be a whole building full of lawyers, you know the blood sucking undead?
Very dangerous.
Best bring pretty unattached blonds as appetizers to lessen their blood lust, and crosses may slow their unholy quest to devour the righteous.

Better get a lawyer, yeah I know. Sometimes you need a vampire to stop a vampire. That felony charge is going to be a problem; it will be very hard to get that reduced to a municipal charge.

Lord Richard is available by a retainer, plus travel expenses. He could serve as an advisory on how to handle self-righteous unabashed blood suckers. He is reported to be a leading expert in this field.

Not fun. May your fortunes improve.

just to let everyone know. its complete garbage why we got arrested. We walked around the outside of a building (with no "no trespassing" signs or fence or anything) and looked inside the building with flashlights and thats what we were arrested for... it sucks because i cant even say i got arrested exploring! what we were doing is no different than window shopping, except we had no intentions of going in or anything, we were just looking, the place was sealed up tight and we werent about to B&E it. Although yeah we probably did look rather suspicious, looking suspicious is reason for the pigs to stop us and and express their concern, maybe ask us some questions, search us, whatever, but no reason to arrest us. I cant afford a lawyer and taking it to trial will just draw it out longer, so im going to plead no contest at my next court date, and take some time in the polk county pokey. I guess the moral of this story is light is illegal in Polk County. So is walking and dark colored clothes. thank you and god day everyone.

Was it night? What you described sounds like prowling to me, but I'm sure how the law are structured to address that.

How you talk to cops, both with words and actions, most times influences how then treat you. That same cop can work with you after your arrested even. If they feel they may have made a mistake or/and if your compliant, and non-adversarial (a nice guy) with them, many times they'll cut you slack. They could have released you that night. Sounds like they're pissed.

For felony charges you'll need a lawyer; a misdemeanor can (and should) be reduced to a municipal offense. I think you really need a lawyer if you can't get the charges reduced to municipal offenses at the preliminary hearing. you don't want serious charges on your permanent record. In the long run it won't save you any money if this isn't resolved properly.

I'd get the lawyer or a court appointed one.

I try to be as tolerant as possible with cops, and put myself in their shoes. Cops are more fired up at first because they don't know what they're walking into. how you behave helps set the tone from there on. Cops look for compliance and if you screwed up, owe up; they don't want to have to deal with people a second time, or waste time on someone who doesn't care. Acting like that might make you feel better, but it's pushing their buttons.

I've had snarling cops take me down with a #12, turn into nice cops that gave me a descent break(s), not free, but ok. They actually complimented me on being cooperative; people give them shit constantly, more doesn't help. If they like you, they are more likely to do what they can to help you. It's just the way things work.

Hope things work out for the better for you.

Call me silly, but I'd think posting this on an open, public forum that is known to be visited by the police, just after an arrest and pending another court date with a fellow explorer being considered for a felony might not be the best idea...

I'm with you, but I think you might want to be more careful about what you say where...

Yeah, and "Fuck the police" doesn't help.

They're just doing their jobs.

Put yourself in their shoes: They make roughly $32K a year to be shot at, harassed and all out hated by everyone. That's a pretty shitty job.

And if you needed them, you'd be the first to call them in an emergency.

It's a two way street.

I didnt sign them up for the job, they signed themselves up for it, and subject themselves to that, no one makes them do it. And no I wouldnt not call the police in an emergency, and that is not me being a hot head, that is the truth. I handle things myself. And to the post above me talking about watching what I say, I did nothing incriminating and said nothing incriminating, I simply expressed the situation as it was and provided my personal opinion.

I thought someone said these flurbex guys were alright. Hunh. Must have heard that wrong. Maybe I thought I heard "alright" when the word was really "tools."

Well, I'll continue to give nomeus the benefit of the doubt, because I have heard good things about him, but it seems like the others might just be typical Floridians. Eww.

Those cops are the ones that will be at an accident scene first when your hopelessly pinned and trapped. If your shot or stabbed, bleeding and incapacitated, it will be a cop that tries to comfort you and keep you alive. Philly cops will even throw shooting victims into their cruisers/van to give them a few extra minutes that may save them by driving them straight to the ER.

LEOs read these posts. Most cops like their jobs, and are cops because want to help people and the community. I sure as hell wouldn't want to go before a judge with a cop and/or prosecutor that had read what you said here. Problem is even if you say nothing (I won't have said a word until after it was all said and done!)your thoughts show through to cops and others. I'm not a LEO, and I find your views and methods to be counterproductive to say the least.

You don't piss in the wind.

the whole reason why i started this thread was to let people here know how easy it is to be arrested for exploring. if youre not invited, authorized or have to permission to be on/in someones property, thats automatically trespassing. in addition, if the police think that you may be endangering property, they have you for prowling/loitering, especially if its not during normal business hours. most of us carry some kind of flashlights due to abandonments having no power most of the time. couple that with a pair of gloves and/or a multitool and now you have a 3rd degree felony charge of "possession of burglary tools" which in florida has a penalty of 5 years and/or 5k fine.

things we take for granted like our gear can so easily and quickly be used against you. and yea its pretty crazy to be sitting in jail for a loitering charge and even crazier when youre sitting next to someones 81 year old grandpa who is charged with disorderly conduct and cant call anyone to get him out.

im not trying to tell people to stop what they love doing. its hard for me still to drive by places i want to see and just keep on driving. all of my photography for the past 6 months has all been of urban and rural abandonments. ive been doing photography since 1999 and i really cant see myself taking photos of flowers and pets. i guess im just saying be careful and always get permission. its the safest way.

Maybe in Florida, but in Georgia it's different. To be considered trespassing, you have to have the intent to commit a crime on the property, damage something, go on the property after being told not to, or remain on the property after being told to leave.
