the world would be a lot happier without someone breathing down your back checking on what you do all the time. don't fix your rotten tooth by blowing a hole through your jaw. see a dentist!

shitty salary my ass. the police have the most 'respected' (feared is a better word) status in general, every day society. check out how many people say 'please' and 'thank you' when the taser's off their behinds
these people do not solve society's problems. they are merely tools of a larger, much more complex system of social control

ps : the police image varies from country to country, and sometimes even state to state. my comment applies to the police system in the areas of miami and south florida. i work the club circuit as an audio/lighting tech, and i've seen people get the SHIT kicked out of them by the cops for spilling a drink on some dumb blonde's dress, and then over-reacting to an over-assertion of authority. if you think the cops are playing a productive role in this society, you are oblivious to the fact
edit : i forgot to mention, a HUGE portion of the assaults on civilians by the police are officially judged from the police' perspective and subjective. if you think the public have a say in cases involving individuals, you should check up on records. this applies all the way from drunk guys in bars to latin people being executed because they cannot speak english, and cannot afford/arrange for an english speaking lawyer
the next time you lounge by your pool thinking of how cool the policeman is for saving your behind from the potential boogieman, i suggest you pick up a fairly non-biased newspaper and form your own opinions, instead of believing everything your cop-loving parents told you

I have always talked my way out of jail by just being nice, respectful and honest, and believe me, I have dealt with some hardasses. Once they realize you're not lying to them and you're just a photographer, you're off the hook 99% of the time.
A wise man once told me "Be nice to the doggy when he's growling at you. Then, when he's out of your sight, go grab a big stick and beat the shit out of him later."
What does that mean? Fight this in court the proper way and you'll be fine. You can easily argue away a Leatherman tool since half the country carries one.
Or better yet, grow up, get a job, and move the fuck out of Florida.
Nomeus, this is not directed at you, you're pretty level-headed about this. This goes out to all of you that are "fuck the police! Down with the man!"
