| | | The first post I ever made here was to start a thread asking for locations in my city (and in the UE Main board no less!) Everyone was a newb at some point, but as a general rule of thumb it's good not to start any threads until you've been here for a month of two. By then you'll recognize all the threads that come up every week (like this one). Just post and hang out for a couple months before starting topics of your own.

Stop that you! Horus, you brazen upstart You waited 2 days, and your first post was quit acceptable. I waited about 2-3 weeks; that's hard to believe. FNGs can post threads, but try not to post dumb ass ones. It's difficult not to though if your not familiar with this site. It takes more than a day to absorb the personality of UER. Hint: we REALLY luv ghost hunters.
Funny posts will get the favor return.

Look closely, dude (or dudette)... That's a digital overlay on the picture, not a real tag. I'm 53 years old and have long since outgrown tagging the places I visit. I simply tag my photos digitally to preserve my copyrights! You know, like an artist signing his paintings. I guess that's ego, so you could be right about the 'shithead' part.
|
Yeah I am pretty sure Im right about the shithead part! But please, continue to educate us, the unwashed and ignorant masses await your wisdom especially about those digital overlays wow, like do you need a special camera to do that? I want one that takes copyrighted pics instead of these damn jpeg things...

I am glad to hear I am not the only one that does this, but why limit it to UE ? I take one to family dinners, boring classesm, and sometimes even work.

After 25 years being a cop, I'd have to say 'Shithead' is one of the kinder handles, know what I mean? I make no claims to be a teacher. I simply thought we could exchange Ideas and experiences. I've had a lot of close calls doing this for nearly 40 years. Most recently, my son and his two friends took me into a huge abandoned textile mill bristling with 'KEEP OUT' and "NO TRESPASSING' signs every where. Taggers and vandals had wreaked havoc on this site. We had been enjoying ourselves about an hour when we heard footsteps coming our way and saw flashlight beams probing in our direction. We had been talking and laughing quite loudly so our presence was of little doubt. The boys were ready to run but I pulled them into the shadows of an old office, told them to drop ANYTHING they had they wouldn't want to be caught with. I then asked my son to give me his wallet and to follow my lead. Sure enough, it was the city police and they most definitly were looking for us. I stepped out of the office and flagged them down. They took the expected defensive stance and demanded identification, stating we were trespassing and they had been instructed to bring in anyone caught on that property. As a retired officer, I still carried a badge in my wallet and made sure they saw it as I handed them DL while hurrying the boys to give me their ID's to pass on over to the cops. My son's wallet I produced from my own pocket and explained to the officers that these boys were all students at the college and that my son had come home for the weekend the previous week and told me about this mill he and his friends had gone in and explored. I further explained I was extremely angry with my son for having gone in without permission, pointing out the dangers, chemical and electrical hazards, not to mention they could end up in jail, loose their scholarships and be kicked out of school! That's when my son had told me he had lost his wallet when he was in there the previous week, and asked if he could go back in one more time to find it. I strictly forbid him to go back in. I said I was picking him up the following week and that we'd BOTH go in to find it and whether we were successful or not he was NEVER to go back in there again! I was clearly angry and my son looked appropriately humbled. I told the police these were his two friend that were with him the previous week and came along to help us look. I then asked the police to please explain to these idiots what could happen to them if they'd gotten caught in here under any other circumstances to which we were given an excellent lecture and severe warning. We concluded with my assurance they would not be seeing THESE boys in here again. I showed them the wallet we'd "just found" and said we were on our way out. We shook hands and the cops turned a departed. We then returned to the office where we'd stashed our "contraband", gathered it all up and laughed our way all the way across the mill and out the way we came in. (I've been in there four times since then and have no plans of stopping until I've explored the entire structure: Five floors spread over several city blocks and abandoned for over 10 years. It's absolutely MASSIVE! All of my photo attachments I've been using are from that location. Urbnxplrr

Uh-huh...(notice the dripping sarcasm) better sick with the pictures, cause I don't buy the story.

| | | Showing a badge when not enlisted as a officer of the law... isn't showing the badge in a way impersonating a officer. I am also having a bit of a hard time buying that. You may have known what to do at that time to get your way with the cop's but that just seems a little hard to comprehend. You were still following the lead of your child to a area that is off limits.
It hasn't happened yet... |

Look who's talking Mr.Glass
If you recall in a post a week or so ago, I said I'm fed up with HDRs because of the time involved and the need for a rock steady shooting platform. This thread could use the Glass effect.

| | | Tsk tsk tsk... you can pretty much count your days here, Mr. Urbnxplrrr, if that is your real name. First rule of UE: Take only photos, leave only footprints. Taking items from a site is *not* exploration; it's THEFT. If you were a cop, and I doubt it, you'd instill a little more moral fiber into your son's well-being. Taking items from a site where people have been before, and will be after, is a big mistake. You can pretty much guarantee now you'll never get full-member status here.

el nerdo c'mon we all were new to UER at one time, you might have forgotten what that was like as you have been here for 6 years. I know the location that he is talking about and have been there myself. I may hit urbanxplrr up to explore it again with me or see if he wants to explore around my hometown. 1. not everyone takes photo's they just explore, I personally do take photos 2. not everyone shares your ethics, plus he said contraband not necesarily something taken from the site 3. moral fiber - their trespassing 4. didnt say they took anything except for the contraband that they hid 5. really depends on Urbanxplrrr's willingness to meet with people and explore *Contraband could be anything Drugs, Weapons, etc. we shouldnt judge anyone without the facts.

Yeah, right. Let's badge our way out of DUI stops, too! You should have gotten hooked up, at least until someone could have verified your creds.

I said contraband... not property from the site. You lack intuition. You are familiar with driving dirty? I never told the cops I was a cop... I told them I was a retired cop. 25 years that began in Cleveland, OH and concluded in Greenville County, SC. As for my son's moral fibre, it's quite intact. I also taught him not to be rude to strangers. A lessen more than one of you could learn. And I'm not going to loose any sleep if you choose not to believe me. Nor have I expressed any interest in becoming a full member. As best as I can tell, y'all seem to be a bunch of self-righteous SOBs. We may share the same hobby, but we clearly don't share the same temperament.
