ROTTEN FUCK!!!
| | | | Chernobyl Trip!! < on 1/31/2007 11:59 PM >
| | | Okay, so i have a plan for sometime in the next 3-4 years..... I'd like to try and organize a Largescale trip to Chernobyl (Pripyat), as i'm sure many of us have had these wet dreams about checking it all out. There is a legal way to tour the facility and see whatever you want to see, with just little limitations such as going near the reactor and all that jive. I'd really like to try and get a large group together for this trip therefore costs can be constituted under a group rate and so forth. Right now this is a dream, but i'd love to make it a reality. Anyone who is interested in helping out, Say the word on the forum and PM me. I can use some help researching.
Maybe to tempt you guys to be interested... here is a sattelite view of Pripyat the city surrounding the incident... ALL OF ITS VACANT!!!! http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.405556,30.056944&spn=0.3,0.3&t=k&q=51.405556,30.056944

| | | I've been looking into this and might have found a potential way to get over to the Ukraine and get a tour of Pripyat (solo exploration is simply not an option in that region). I work for a film production company, and I have family contacts within the federal government in both Heritage Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency. I'm drafting a proposal to head a film crew over to document the aftermath and recovery from a health sciences point of view.
It may not work at all, in which case I'll have to wait until I have enough money for the trip, as well as the bribes to get into places! But, yeah. I wanna go there bad.

| | | Hell yeah. That would be so cool. Ever since I bought the book Zones of exclusion By Robert Polidori I've been thinking of planning something like that after my studies.

| | | A couple of years ago a russian woman took a trip to chernobyl on her motorcycle and documented everything on her website. According to her, people are still living in the 60 mile contamination radius although many die each year obviously. And yes she packed a Geiger counter and the closest she could get without putting herself in danger was about 5 miles from the 'center'. Of course, at that point entering the buildings would be deadly due to the amount of contaminates 'soaked up' by the structures. i'll try and find the website

| | | Yea, Robert Polidori's stuff is great. I've got Zones of Exclusion: Pripyat and Chernobyl and Havana. I recently watched Discovery Channel's Battle of Chernobyl, which is excellent. I've been trying to figure out a trip there myself. Jonny, are you still moving down here next week?

| | | i fail to see how she can be full of shit. All she does is present pictures and makes vague statements about them. The only bad things is that time form a times after, her english translations can be the harder of to understanding. Reminds me of Borat.

Errrr, Av may have done that. But not before I dug up this woman's address from her domain name details, sent her a letter, discovered she was married and smelled a rat. It's in the forums somewhere. I was calling it shite well before the media caught on. But, on to the subject of a trip to Chernobyl. This year I am planning a big trip to the US, Canadia, Europe and .... Chernobyl. http://www.urbanad...in/rtex/index.html I am just now researching the visa information seriously (though really I have started research over a year ago) and expect to apply for my visa soon. I guess now is as goos a time as any to go check if it will be possible to drive to Kiev and or to the edge of the exclusion zone. Oh, and yeah, I sure would be interested in teaming up with people to do such a trip. Okay, here's the sit to book the tours. The price has really come down in te years. http://www.ukraini...rnobyl_ukraine.htm [last edit 2/5/2007 9:23 AM by Panic! - edited 1 times]
