Thank you for proving my point again. How about you take your own websites seriouly and let Av have fun with the site he works hard on. I doubt Av's bad decorations will rub off on your image. Nothing personal to Av or anyone else involved in the look of this site, but its been the same for as long as I have been here and I doubt many people come here for the looks. If you hang around here alot, you will see what a good admin Av is wehn it comes to programing his site with new features for the users. The most important part of this sites it is content, and as long as that stays the same most people are content. I don't think I am the only one that doesn't see the harm in a silly Christmas theme for a few weeks a year.

So big mister web whatever the hell you do, get off your internet high horse and take a chill pill. You are going to give your self an ulser.

EDIT::I am sorry, I just looked and you have been a member for two years, and posted all of 26 times. If you looked at this site more than once every few months you would not be shocked at the Christmas theme, you would have seen it last year. So before you start throwing around disrespectful comments, atleast contribute to the site a little more.

In all fairness, that's a pretty disrespectful comment to be throwing around.

Just because you can't see the fault in the whole Christmas theme, doesn't mean you're right. Not by a long shot.

You've got to realise that there are people in the web-development industry who take an active interest in their job, like many people in other professions (Maybe if you try hard, andrea, you could think of a few others). As a web-developer today, there are strict standards to stick to. Keeping sites XHTML valid, as well as making sites accessible to disabled people, is a major issue that must be addressed. When you're good at this sort of thing you pick up the ability to immediately tell good sites from bad sites.

Now I realise this is an Urban Exploration forum, but as with any society, you've got to realise that you'll have the odd web-developer kicking around. Now because my profession is of personal interest to me, it means I'm naturally going to criticize stuff that looks wrong. Okay the Christmas theme is cute at first, it got a chuckle from me, but it's more the accessibility issues that annoy me.

1. There should be a way to disable this
2. Yes, we've established that there is, BUT...
3. That should be made clear on the front page, rather than halfway through a 5-page thread.

That's where the web administration fails in this instance.

Your comment is fairly stupid, since you obviously don't know much about this field. I don't know what you do for a living, but if you decide to make a comment about something based on your professional knowledge, I wouldn't be cutting that up.

Taking this 'shit' seriously, as you chose to put it, is what pays my rent.

My first reaction was "what the bloody hell...?" now I just feel all christmasy! Maybe it's the dancing Santa or the weird disembodied reindeer but I want to go put up my christmas tree. With that said: Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Festivus and a Blessed Yule. Now go explore!

This interface makes me want to kill somebody after a while. I can see the humour in it, but damn, every year.... I'm gonna be switching to Infiltration shortly.

Also, Christmas is against my beliefs. I demand that it be removed immediately, and a Festivus theme be used instead

EDIT: And anyone who is actually upset and/or offended by the Christmas theme needs to fucking chill out.

I always thought that this site was one of those where usability and other things like that come first, and seasonal decorations would be added only if they wouldn't disturb browsing the content by floating in front of text and pictures...

edit: I have nothing against Christmas or Christmas decoration in general, even though I'm trying to avoid them by travelling to Far East every Christmas. The Christmas theme in the menu is quite neat, even though a bit too "colourful", but my humble opinion is that those floating things should never be used in any sites, especially in ones that require "concentration" like discussion forums.

And please, stop using "Av can do whatever he wants because this is his site" as an argument. We know that, and I bet no-one forgot that while arguing about his newest invention. I admit I haven't read the rules for a while, but last time I browsed trough them, criticizing this site and Av's actions was not forbidden (as long as it stays constructive and civilized, of course).

Geez, lighten up. I've done my fair share of web development in my time too, and while you have some good points (if we were talking about a commerical site), you should really lighten up. Hate it so much? Leave. There are tons of webdesign forums out there to complain about this sort of stuff in.

I'm sure glad the first posts you decided to make since January 2004 were about Russian parkour and complaining about the (temporary) Christmas theme. What a great contribution.

Ooohhh... I never realised we could change the interface by changing the fid number. *plays around a little*

Come on guys, must you have a flamewar about everything? Nobody FORCES you to come here every day. You choose to. If you don't like what Av does with [ultraemphasis]his[/ultraemphasis] site, then don't view it. Its that simple.

I'm pissed off because Av is forcing his religion on me. You know the one. He's a hard-core funie Santist and his gifs are brainwashing me! I'm calling the FCC, the GHY, the UIF, and the IRA! He's impending on my first-amendment rights! For those of you who don't know, Santism is a cult founded by notorious criminal Avatar-X (a.k.a. Chat-Room Santy), based around worshipping him! The madness must end![/sarcasm]

All joking aside, some people are getting way to angry about this. Just use the other interfaces. I think you can live without the sidebar for a week or two.

I've tried the other interfaces and I find the fonts difficult to read. My eyesight isnt the greatest. I don't know if its the font size or the background color that makes it so difficult to read. I would just be nice if Santa, his reindeer and Frosty weren't floating right around where I'm trying to read. I'm all for them being there just not right in my face.

BLEEDING EGGNOG!

Av this is great! Please keep piling stuff on! I am not being sarcastic in the least bit. Can you throw in an annoying midi or three? That'll kick these un-festive bastards into shape.

Seriously folks, what's religious about santa, snowmen, reindeer, holly and blinking lights? To me these are the gods of commercialization, and I'm proud to worship them as part of whatever other "winter holiday" religious practices I enjoy.
