Lorton Prison

Anyone been there/know anything about this place. I just moved to Annandale VA and heard from one of my coworkers about it. I followed him to the site but it was too dark to see and I was alone so I decided to go back at a later date during the day. It was in the local paper because someone was filming an independent film there. It appears to be right next to a high school and was probably closed in the late 80's. Any pics would be much appreciated.

I've driven by Lorton a number of times, and if I recall correctly, it has some pretty obscene fencing around it. I'm curious myself as to what is currently going on with it, and if nobody knows off the top of their head, I'll be willing to call around a bit and find out.

Olney? Are there any old farms around that area? My visits up that way have been limited to the theatre, but it seems it would have a few decent opportunities (although that might be worth starting a new thread for).

It's powered and maintained, I know that much. It has a good amount of activity in/around it too.

The Olney Theatre? I worked there for 3 years lol. There used to be some farms around there and some abandoned houses, but Olney has been built up so much, for the worse, that there is not much to look at. Look into Brookville, specifically Gregg Road. Thats right around where I used to live and that whole road is known for weird things, theres a barn where this guy in the 40's killed 4 teenage girls and made dolls to represent each one in the barns windows, the dolls are still there. That road is also supposed to be "haunted" by goat man and some runaway slaves. Theres also this weird little dirt road off of Gregg Road that has about 60 abandoned VW buses just sitting around with no explanation. Not far from Brookville off of Riggs Road theres one of the last NIKE missile bases still standing, but theres a National Guard Barracks on the site so I wouldnt recommend getting too close. Theres a few abandoned farm houses around some new developments that you can look around at, but most of them are all burned down by now.(The rich kids get bored and like to light things on fire) Thats about all I can think of off the top of my head. If I remember anything else I'll post it.

First time I entered, I sauntered in the front gate, chatted with construction workers, and than wandered around freely. 2nd time, I was considering a low fence near the baseball diamond (open to the public) when a guard in a jeep pulled up. He was not very friendly, possibly because he has to drive around all day in a vehicle that says 'Wackenhunt' on the side of it. Worst name for security company ever. Anyway, access isn't trouble free, but its not as bad as it first looks.

lorton is easy a hell to get into... you just have to find the main gate and its the easiest thing to hope over

because there is a big truck ish van thing that drives around and its covered in lights kinda freaky just keep low and you will be fine

last night we went and it was kinda scary because there was someone else inside the prison with us... me and my friends ran like hell and heard the main gate opening behind us... i have been there other times and been fine though

so if you go just be careful and its fun as shit to walk around inside

Where there is a tiny hole that no one else wants to squeeze into... ill be there.

It closed in the late 90s. I live like 3 miles away from where the high school is, which before it was built the land used to hold a part of the prison. Getting in is easy, as Da Klieb said, just hop the front gate...Not the one facing 123/Lorton though, so its more like a back gate now that no one can drive on the road to it.

we had steam heat from tunnels under each walk of blocks. the pipes are brittle with rust--at full pressure they'd tear skin when one cracked. the ground must still ache.

went back to lorton again tonight... got into the main cell block area its really easy you can just slip in the main gate that surrounds the cell block... then one of the buildings was already unlocked so we walked around and took the classic, in the cell pictures

I still have not had time to stop by this place. I've talked to a few local friends and they all make it seem like getting in isnt a big deal, but I want to go while it is still light out to take pics. I will probably end up stopping by soon. I'll post pics and info when they are available.

I would suggest going in early morning, and get your pics and leaving during the day if you must be out in daylight, or go in at twilight. It's pretty hot during the day security wise, and there are big open fields they can see you in.

That's pretty crazy that that place is now closed. I lived in Fairfax for many years and used to drive by that place all the time. It used to be sketchy as every now and then prisoners would escape.

Damn, I'd love to see it now. But I'm in CA and my family moved to CO.

If anyone has any pics, I'd love to see them.

i actually had the pleasure of freely exploring lorton a couple years back.

i was a photo major at George Mason and the whole department got to go two weekends in a row, both days each weekend. the guards unlocked anything and everything for us.

the absolute coolest thing (imho) was in the chapel, the Jesus on the cross in the center of the main part of the chapel was made from a cast of a death row inmate's body, then painted up. they even painted the blood drips on him.

lorton used to be a completely self contained prison, the inmates even made the bricks that make up the wall around the place.

mason was looking into renting space from the city?/owners as studio space, but I guess that fell through. there was also talk of a torpedo factory type thing (artist studio spaces/retail spaces) but someone said it's going to be made into housing? go figure. but i guess if they're going to do something with it i'd MUCH rather see it be housing than a freaking mall or torn down!!

in case you wanted to know...there's also an auxiliary campus of lorton a couple miles away. which, I THINK is way cooler. i can't for the life of me remember how to get there. but if you ask around, you might find someone who knows about it.

there's a barn, stable, some other buildings.

there was also a SUPER old house, which i think was the warden's house. but i can't remember if that's on the back of the main campus, or the auxiliary one. THAT we couldn't go into, because the floors were falling in. but you know darn well that was the one building i wanted in the worst.

anybody tell me where it is and i'll drive all the way back to virginia to go to it
