Sorry for the late reply. Just spend a few days at the coast with my GF.

At the moment it looks like I might be able to come at the 12th and then leave the 14th (have to go back around 14:00)

I will call Arjan this weekend to hear if he could arrange something at his work.

Damn. I hope you poked your colleagues ribs to make sure he wasn't faking?

Don't forget to bring the Tripod, I'll bring the Grolsch!

I will certainly come on the following days:

Aug 10: Liege
Aug 11: Charleroi

Possibly I'll join on - but that's a very low probability:

Aug 12: Coast (Dunkerque, Zeebrugge, or both)

Maybe my son will come with me - I'm not sure. He likes to do things with me, but I fear he is put off by being with a large group of people he doesn't know (and being away from his computer games for al "long" time).

I'll bring a black office suit and tie (I don't have a tuxedo).

I certainly hope there will be time to just roam around the cities and do "ad hoc" explorations. I've seen most of the "classic" destinations already.

I like the idea of riding the Charleroi metro end to end.

And on your map - isn't there a lot more old industry between Charleroi and Dunquerque? Any way we could explore that? Where did Van Gogh live? There were a lot of poor mines there. I'll try to look it up.

By the age of 27 he had been [...] an evangelist among the miners at Wasmes in Belgium. During the nearly two years he spent living among the miners and sharing their poverty, he lost his faith, but he found in art—through the charcoal drawings he made of the landscapes and people around him—the possibility of a new career.

Wasmes?

Isn't Namur industrial? Google doesn't say much useful things.

Bring the kid.

Ok... for everyone who hasn't understood it yet: My phone number is in the lower edge of the Belgium Trip ad - yes, the phonenumber of Belgium International Cartography.

I will be waiting at 11:00 A.M on the 10th of August 2005, in front of the hospital de Valdor (or Val d'Or, whatever it is).

I don't know times yet but I'll make sure my phone is on every day from 12 to 2 and from 6 to 8 (except when I'm driving at the time). You can't send to my voicemail, but you can sms me.

I still have 2 free seats in my car. So whoever comes first, has shotgun, next one has to sit next to a crate of Grolsch and has to protect it.

Not at all!
But Namur has 9 (9!) abandoned military forts around the city. I visited 2 of them yesterday.
If you need more info about the locations, pm me.

Hi,

Thanks IIVQ for the invitation. And sorry for the late reply. I won't be able to make it because i don't have time at all this month. I'll be moving into a new apartment in a couple of weeks and also have another holiday trip planned later this month. The house moving thing takes up all of my time currently. I hardly can find any time to explore local things around here.

Anyway, it's not so bad at all, my new house will be 3 times bigger or so Wish you all lots of fun in belgium, i know it will be cool there.

I'll join in on the Liège day, but I'm coming by train. Does anyone know which station I need to travel to, and if there are busses that can bring me close to le valdor?

NM: Bressoux seems to be pretty close. I'll try to be on time, it's a 2km walk from the station to le valdor

If you want I can pick you up at the Liège-Guillemins station with my car.
It's not so far from Le Valdor. (about 5-10 minutes!).
Check at what time you will arrive there and post me it.
Cheers.

Ok.

I have the following attendance info on people:
  • Me All days
  • Uair01 & co. 10, 11, maybe 12
  • On_Parole & co. 12, 13
  • Titch 10, 11 (rest unknown)
  • Adstar 10, 14.
  • y0ze 13, maybe 14 (I'll call/sms you on the 12th)
  • praatpaal 13, maybe 14
  • Uncle Goose Unfortunately, not at all.
  • Sylv unknown (not 10-12)
Any others who want to come?

Sleeping: (evening of the)
10: I'll be sleeping at home. I suppose Titch will sleep at home as well. Others who have not made arrangements with me arrange their own sleeping place.
11: I don't like leaving my car in charleroi's suburbs, so probably I'll drive to the coast and/or sleep in the car halfway (in the Triage-Lavoir de peronnes?)
12: Don't know. Maybe Gent for a sunrise exploration. Meeting point is in Gent at a time and place we decide later on (or make a suggestion now)
13: Don't know, but we'll decide on it there. (I suggest we storm Adstar, sylf or uncle gooses place without them knowing and steal their bed)
14: Own bed, everyone at home.

Meeting points:
10: 11:00 am, val d'or, Liege (= Rue de Basse-Wez. If there's no parking space there, then facing the valdor and drive to the RIGHT, keeping to the right. Stop at the first side street. (Impasse du Chera).
11: everyone who comes 11th was was there the 10th.
12: I agree with On_Parole. I suppose Dunkerque around 10.
13: I don't know Gent. The main train staion. (St. Pieters). at say 10:30 AM.
14: Marialei, gates of the HMA. Say 10:30 again.

I don't have money at the moment for a hotel, so if people want to sleep in a hotel then I'll join and repay you later. I bring tent & sleeping bag (for my self! not for others!)

Transport: I suppose we have enough cars.

Food & Drinks: Bring your own and share. Also bring exploring stuff. Don't bring too weird stuff if police might question us. Bring a tripod

What did I forget?

Tijmen

I forgot: Bring a suit!

You could also do the Zuidstation in Antwerp since you go on sunday. It's possible to enter by the backdoor but it's quite a climb since they dug a hudge pit in front of it.

I can read things till early thursday morning. (Don't expect me to reply if it requires a lot of thinking though).

I just filled up the tank and did some shopping. I have 12 litres of Fruit drink, 3 litres Ice tea, 1 crate of Grolsch, 120 cookies, 1 jar of choclate spread, half a bread and 6 litres of water. All mine!
