Belgium Trip 2005!
< on 7/23/2005 9:59 AM >
Posted on Forum: UER Forum

I intend to spend a few (3-5) days in Belgium* in the first half of August.

I at least want to spend some time in Charleroi, especially the metro lines I don't know yet. Also, I want to see the Gent/Zeebrugge area. If anyone has good ideas in the North of France, that's fine with me.

I have a car which can carry 3 (that is, 2 others) who I can drive around. I plan to sleep in tent and/or at people's homes. (And, if we're in a good enough group, sleep in one of the tunnels of the Charleroi Metro)

Anyone who wants to come along? Just yell out:
-dates you're available
-things you want to visit
-Modes of transport / sleeping places available.

and we'll draw up a plan here.

Off course you don't have to come along all the time. If you're available only a few hours, that's good enough!

Tijmen.

* Yes, I know, I live in Belgium, but whatever.

Sounds cool. I can ask some of my UE friends. Last may we spend a lot of time in campanille hotels. There pretty cheap and good to stay.

Oops didn't read the part about the sleeping. Sleeping in open air is also a good option :) if it doesn't rain.

I can take up to 3 extra people in my car. Arjan and i bought a lot of camp stuff for last trip so cooking etc. won't be a problem. In fact cooking while looking out all over boulogne sur mer is pretty nice :)

I think I can free myself between the 8-9 augustus till the 15.
But don't change everything for me, just take the more suitable day for everyone, not for one!
Whenever you have a precise idea over the places to explore, can you post it?

Ok... Basic idea, nothing fixed:

  • Day 1, Liège
    - I will first check the state of La Chartreuse. I've heard rumours it's fenced off. Anyone any info?
    - If anyone wants to go to the Val d'Or (or is it plain Valdor?) we'll go there. Hazards: very bad flooring, so I want someone who knows the place on the team. Titch? Uair01?
    - Later we'll go to La Pontisse, north of Liège.
    - Titch, do you know spectacular things near Liège?
    - Sleep at either my turf (near Maastricht) or somewhere else (camp in La Chartreuse anyone?)

  • Day 2, Charleroi
    - Personally, I want to take a subway ride over the whole network.
    - I want to visit the inactive lines I haven't seen, that is from Champeau to the ring and from Gilly outward.
    - I'd like to see the Fosse 18 again, but it's not really spectacular, it's just my old friend.

  • Day 3, Coast
    - On_Parole will lead us to the coastal defenses?
    - Is there something good at Carcoke Zeebrugge?

  • Day 4, Gent
    - Uncle Goose and Adstar will lead us trough Gent (Gand) and surroundings.

  • Day 5, Antwerpen
    - Exploration at will! The harbour must be a UE paradise.
    - Military Hospital
    - Unused Subway Tunnels. I only have a hint as to how to get into them, but I'll get some info one way or the other.

As I haven't heard any constraints from people other than Titch, let's put day 1 on Tue Aug 9 and go on till Sat Aug 13.

If anyone wants to have something changed, or additions, please make them! This is just a beta of some guidelines, I'm all for changing plans whenever we want to.

Okay, first problem the 9th of august is my GF's birthday, I have to be there so I will have to come another day.

Second problem, most coastal batteries in Belgium have been demolished. It might be an option to make a one hour drive to the Dunkerque / Gravelines area and visit Battery Oldenburg (a real large coastal battery) and Battery Waldam.

Carcoke zeebrugge sounds like a good option, It's on my list to be visited.

Hello everybody!
Sorry not to answer so quick, but at the moment, I'm working the whole night during 2 weeks at a big factory burning the wastes of Brussels.
For me, it will be ok to begin with you at Liège the 10 augustus.
I can show you the places to explore and give some explanations about the places.
First of all,- fort de Pontisse is not more abandonned, they are using it to keep donkeys!! But I can try to have an authorization (i have a phone number).
- La chartreuse, easy like hell to enter the place, and I know a good place to sleep inside (a old shelter).
- Le valdor, yes I know very well the place, some parts have unsafe floor. It will be destroyed very soon as I've heard.
- Carcoke Zeebrugge : they are demolishing the factory, and now, I'm not sure it's still interesting to explore. I can suggest you to visit old military hospital of Oostende.

If you have another question..... go! But it can take me, at least 2 days to answer due to my work.

I did two of these the other week and
Carcoke Zeebrugge is cool to do.
Yes it is fenced off but u can get around it, just go around to the side building and look along the fence there is a hole.

We also did a blast furnace starting with ´A´ fuck sorry cant remember the name cause its french!

Basically we got caught by the french police but they were cool with us.
Just dont shine torches at the top of the BF or u WILL attract attention!!

This one was near metz, refer to lab-wan site for it but l dont have enough time to link it sorry!
hope that helps.

yea that was my bad. if you're doing the location at night, then try and do the furnace first, as i made the mistake of going up quite late and flashing a few times.

still it was goodah fun - highly recommended!!

I'm still definitely in, for the locations in ghent, just let me know what you're interested in and I'll check the current state (check my site for examples).

The military hospital in Ostend isn't all that impressive, I suggest the RTT home in Oostduinkerke, which isn't too far off.
