Post whatever you like, explore whatever you like. It's your life and you don't have to conform to anybody elses rules but your own.

But it was mentioned before - please don't share location names (or photos with anything that would give away the location) because it puts them at higher risk of vandalism.

Read the forum rules to be more aware of the guidelines put on the forum. But that's all you have to worry about!

This is all true. Keep in mind that if "whatever you like" includes having the other locals trust you enough to show you really awesome places then I recommend you be careful about what information you share publicly.

First off, I would suggest you read this writeup I made a few years ago specifically dealing with issues in MSP. This will cover a lot of the basics with how the community operates an has been well received by all the locals.

http://www.scribd....oundation-Concepts

@shotgun Thanks, that was a good read. Very helpful. And much more useful than just stating 'rules' without any context or rationale. Made me consider some points of view that I hadn't previously - most specifically regarding the reasons not to post location info along with photos.

All y'all, there is no reason to defile this members thread any longer. One thread already got locked. If you wish to continue, do it on one of mine. (this one is fine) http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=111434

I'm Glad to hear that. In the end the caution and self-censorship is all about keeping locations accessible so that people can enjoy them and nothing more. Hope you have fun exploring in the cities. I know I certainly did; it will probably be one of the highlights of my life, and something I greatly miss already.

Stop defiling all of our community threads and trying to cause trouble and things won't have to escalate this far.

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!
Don't try to have a UER e-penis! You won't impress anyone! This especially means you, Minneapolis MN newbies!

It's not. You are what is offensive, your ignorance, your lack of compassion for other peoples view points, your crappy pictures, the nonsense you say in practically every thread I've seen you post in and your all around arrogance is what is offensive.

Why don't you come to MSP and meet all these people that you keep calling elitists. I bet you don't have the balls. But if you are ever in MSP let me know, I would love to meet you in person. And I mean that seriously, I try not to judge people based on what they say on the internet so get up here and prove us all wrong, I'll even take you to Teh Quarry.

This thread was over at reply #21 after the OP graciously listened to people's feedback and took some time to read and learn about the people who explore in the MSP area. They showed a sincere understanding for the reason's, after learning about them, for why it is the way it is in MSP and I think that is very commendable.

But alas, cdevon, wicked witch of the great lakes forum, needed to quack a bit more nonsense and hype his other amazing thread, so here we are again.

your crappy pictures

This is coming from the guy who has posted no photos besides a couple boats (Google images I think?) and some shitty Microsoft Paint meme's in your last 5 pages of posts I think this is something you'd do best to keep your mouth shut on.

I've already PM'd O.P And gave him some tips and tricks on exploring in General and I invite anyone else (MSP or not) to do the same. It's obvious this thread is going to go off the rails like the other ones have.

Geez...OK....

...to your first paragraph:

Since you obviously have not been paying attention, people from MSP don't post pictures on UER. Even if I was a photographer, which I'm not, as a human being with eyes, I can still judge whether I believe a photo is shitty or not. Art is in the eye of the beholder and for you to judge me on what I think is or isn't shitty art makes you sound ignorant.

...to your second paragraph:

I don't know you, I don't know if you know any explorers from MSP in RL, I'm guessing you don't because if you did I probably wouldn't be typing this now since you wouldn't be sticking your nose in the middle of this because you would know better.

I don't know what it's like to explore in Canada where your from, so I don't go into your forum and tell your newbs how they should act in Canada.

Myself, and I'd bet a lot of MSP explorers would prefer if you didn't give advise to people who explore in MSP since, unless I'm mistaken, you have no knowledge of what is going on in MSP. And to quote you, "I think this is something you'd do best to keep your mouth shut on."

Have a great day and thanks for trolling great lake, come again soon!

There's a huge difference between having an opinion and sharing it. Remember what Thumper (from Bambi) said? If you don't got nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all. You MSP folks are really anal about "Self-regulation" and this is one of those moments where you should put it into use.

At least CDevon has the courage to put up his images for everyone to see and form opinions on - much unlike you.

I've talked to a few MSP explorers who have been very nice! But there are also a LOT of you who are rude, aggressive and controlling. If one of you took the time to casually explain the ins and outs of your group I'd be much more open to understanding than the regular "OMG I CANT BELIEVE YOU POSTED PICS - MSP NEVER POSTS PICS. YOU SUCK. MSP IS SECRET AND ELITE AND SUPERIOR" Bullshit I see on the regular from MSP members.

You could TRY and tell us how to explore - but because (as far as I know) we don't HAVE a huge elite squad, nor do we have a large group of members who try to enforce their rules on anyone who explores in the area (with or without them present) you'd have nothing to say. As far as I know we explore based on standard rules that (almost everyone) follows.

Telling me not to give him advice ( I mentioned it was general ) is just another point to the list of how controlling you guys can get. I didn't PM him and say anything that I haven't already said here or elsewhere.

MSP would do well to realize that they don't own the buildings, nor do they own the explorers within MSP. If I came to your area, found an abandonment that I liked ON MY OWN and took photos of it I'd be damned if I let another member who had nothing to do with me/my explore tell me to not post photos of it.

Now if I was shown the location by another member who told me to keep it quiet / off UER that'd be fine with me. That's a respect issue and is understandable.

This is really funny. You should see some of the things I posted on our local forum 2 years ago when I was new to the MSP community and didn't get it either. You practically are echoing some of the things I was saying then. However, after actually living in MSP and exploring and hanging out, shit even living with MSP explorers, I realized why it is the way it is.

I don't expect you to get it, it took me almost a year to get it and I live here. I'm not going to argue about it, you are free to take what people say as you'd like.

And to your statement "If one of you took the time to casually explain the ins and outs of your group I'd be much more open to understanding". We have, we do, and I can't speak for other people, but I will continue to do so as well. I mean there's a link to basically the unofficially MSP UE bible posted right here in this thread and multiple other threads on UER, maybe you should read it.

Stop trying to act like this is unique to MSP and its somehow our bad... the original poster in this thread was shockingly intelligent with his first post, but in general when noobs make stupid posts they get treated the same way everywhere -- usually with respect enough to actually give them the proper advice, with a little bit of sarcasm, until the people with the underdog complexes come along and take the side of the ignorant noobs.

Then these heroes bitch about how in their opinion people should keep there opinions to themselves, or make just as ridiculous contradictions in logic trying to argue that the internet never hurt any UE locations.

Lol, I was just going to point this out. Gunner has been a good example of an MSP explorer maturing

I'm taking odds on how long CDevon stays in the "blow all the things" phase before he hits the "preach some discretion" phase. Based on other people I've seen I'm guessing about 2 years.

Welcome! I always read the new member introductions because of how entertaining the arguments tend to be. I've only had the pleasure of exploring with the MSP "community" a couple times, but I've been exploring the twin cities for the last seven years on my own and have not found a better place to be yet.

Now I certainly could go around posting pictures of all my adventures on here with photo-journalistic captions and stories to go with, seeing as I don't really explore with anyone on here anyways. But I find it unethical to do so, which is why I don't.

Pictures clearly identifying locations are just bad news bears. Everyone and their grandma lurking these forums sees recent pictures and decides they too are going to go explore these places because they are "open". They get there, and can't find a way in.. So they start busting windows and breaking down doors - leading to heightened security and the public perception that urban explorers are nothing more than a bunch of vandals. A couple weeks ago I was on the roof of a certain place and watched a group of kids prying boards off a building right in public view. A couple days later the boards were back on tighter, and my sneaky little entrance was sealed too.

MSP explorers might seem a little uptight, but the reality of this city is that any unwanted attention to a building will lead to it being sealed up tight, and with the number of explorable places steadily decreasing, this is a risk no one who loves exploring this area is willing to take.

Anywho have fun in one of the coolest cities around, and if you ever want to go adventuring with another photographer (that would be me), feel free to shoot me a message.

Cheers!
