San Francisco Silos

There are plenty of threads about this location so no need to an explanation on its history. The old threads will provide enough detail. Access to and parking was no easy feat. This urban was rather tricky. After dodge the neighboring employees watchful eye and then finally locating the P.O.E amidst the countless "NO TRESPASSING" signs, a sigh of relief was felt when finally inside. There was a homeless tent and a make-shift sign at the P.O.E that read, "Make sure you keep the door closed behind you as you enter and leave". Snapping away on my camera I made it to the the Cat Walk. I didn't dare cross it cause I didn't want to be seen by EVERYONE. What a great day to explore SF!

Going across the catwalk is pretty low risk, as the workers next to the building do not seem to care, and if you run across fast, nobody will notice! The homeless guy is really nice, I brought a box of granola bars as a sort of gift. In the lower level there seemed to be some sort of WW2 Helmet.

Great adventure!

Anyone know how I can rotate these pictures? When I uploaded them they were the right way up.

The homeless guy lives there and seems used to explorers, not a big threat from what I saw.

@lachy: you have a good photo set there. So yea I didn't know how to approach the catwalk so now that I know you can guarantee a revisit with updated photos.
@romainpp: yes I wanted to shoot more of the patriotic homeless tent but I just don't want to disturb anyone. I mean someone does like there. Next time I will bring food or smokes.

so since he lives there, with a roof over his head and an american flag....does that still make him homeless?

I watched from the second level down, and I could see that he was repairing the chain of his bicycle. He then biked out of his private exit, along the waterfront views, and returned a half hour later with a bag full of groceries. He is probably better off than some that have homes. 👀

there was people living up on the top floors at one point. We removed & threw away a few knives from their camp just as a precaution since we didn't want anyone sneaking up on us behind our backs.

So there is the catwalk between the 2 main buildings, but I know there is also a catwalk going across to those structures looming over the docks & water. Is that too dangerous? I never see pictures from anyone walking across to those.

Are you talking about these towers above the dockyard? I feel like anyone who is brave enough to try & get over into these would be pushing their luck with the stability of the walkways. Not saying it can't be done, I just think the danger aspect spikes substantially

Yeah! I'm figuring the reward isn't worth the risk. Very tempting though

The catwalk itself is a bit destroyed -- it perhaps can be done by walking on the white metal section? I wasn't about to test that theory:

I walked along what I would consider the side railing, but it is definitely not worth the risk to go to the other side.

Options

go to the other side to take some pics that no one will ever remember in a week

or go to the other side, fall, and make a journey to the other side.

I miss Sanfrancisco! Getting West Coast home sick in the midwest bad. That silo spot I was at during late night and I got spooked by either a homeless man or truck driver opening a door of one of the parked semi trucks in the lot. I ran as fast as I could out! I want to get back to that spot during day sometime and get that shot you guys are talking's so sketch!
