That's so weird but definitely cool. I wonder who made the conversion?

I really want one! Like a Westy but it runs!

Probably Sportsmobile, who got their start by making actually a 4x4 version of the VW Microbus

My roommate in tech school had one. Bought it for 200 bucks haha.

I remember we had 5 fat ass guys in the thing one night and my roommate missed his turn. He tried to slide it onto the dirt road but nothing at all happened when he turned the wheels. It just kept going forward from all the weight in it.

He also drove the thing around for 6 months without figuring out it didnt have coolant in it. Thing ran like a champ the whole time hahaha

I'd rock one of these in a second. The last one in PA probably rotted away around '96 unfortunately.

Splumer, hey man it's been awhile. I don't think I've seen you since we went to Mike Tyson's mansion? On the Allante's if you could pick those up cheap, and by the looks of those two, you might be able to. I would go for it man. I have two myself and they are great cars. I have had a few problems with one of them, but the other one has been my daily driver for almost 10 years now and has never let me down even once. And the parts market for even some of the smallest things on that car can go for crazy money, I kid you not....If I still lived in Ohio, I would go check those out. Maybe fix one and part the other one out.

If it doesn't have 4WD I'm not interested.

As a child of the '80s, I just liked the design. A lot of design in the '80s (well, a lot of everything in the '80s was awful) but the Allante was, IMO, the best of '80s design. Late '80s VW's I liked the design of, too. I had an '86 Golf that I thought looked terrific.

There's plenty more to explore up in the CLE, BTW. Is Polaris Amphitheater totally gone now?

I have seen one 4WD Allante, but that was a custom job.
I haven't been in Columbus for 2 years now but the last time I drove by Polaris amphitheater, I didn't see anything left from the road.

http://www.kijiji....avigationFlag=true - Also, fuck this guy. I asked about this car a few years ago when the ragtop was still in place, now the ragtop is gone and the car is STILL sitting in the weeds and pretty rotten looking. What a waste.

(It's the exact Beetle I want, '58-'64 ragtop. Because I really want an accurate Herbie replica. With a Porsche 356 engine.)

This is something I've considered trying.

Smyth Performance makes a cool Ute kit for the Mk4 Jetta.
