Interesting; there were many differences between export models to North America models, and Euro ones. Idk if you would have got that many miles out of the 1.7. The early 70's 1.6 dual port upright was the best of that engine. I think smog control knocked it back from 60 to 48?hp in the last few years of the Beetle.

We got an export-spec engine, no smog stuff. It lasted over 200,000km and then started to ring a bell with a loose big-end. A rebuild then lasted into the 2000s where my brother killed it somewhere, where she still lays... Neko.

P.S. Hey Sleeper, how about a shot of the back, I want to read the hippy stickers lol.

I think I see a Dave Matthews Band sticker on there.

that's not really an opinion, I want dumb stupid senseless things all the time. Like that gas powered skateboard I begged my wife to let me go pick up 2 hours away.... that doesn't mean its good or there is actually a point to having it.

As an avid surf trip junkie, this video makes me wanna go buy a VW van.

Of course, I've never done a 12,000 mile surf trip with the whole family. But it seems the VW van works very good for this application.

I wish my kids were that patient. We're going for a not as epic 1,200 mile week and a half journey with the westy this summer.
