but its a volkswagen? aren't they the most perfect vehicle EVAR?

It took me a half hour to replace the battery in my wife's Beetle this morning. I'm not a VW fan too much now. Although the battery did last for 9 years...

and the front wheel Dodges you favor were just the pinnacle of cutting edge engineering?
the Cavalier was what it was... a cheap, fun to drive, fun to own entry level car that would run forever and a day.
the Cobalt was a huge improvement over the J-body. It's failing was it's interior. It's mechanicals were solid.

You know, I think it's every mid to late 2000s gm I hate the crappy interiors on. I almost bought an 06 Cadillac cts-v but the interior and the whole quality of the car was rubbish. Hell My Mazda that was half the price as that cadillac has a much better quality feel than that crap cts-v... Though it was quite fast.

The only rust I normally see on cavaliers is in the rear frame area (seems like every single one rusts there for some reason) and the rockers on front of the rear wheels.

Almost every one of them i've ever seen has quarter panel rust,
I would never personally own one because i think most of them are horribly ugly.

I think it sucks more for the people who drive them. Around here cavaliers carry the white trash, douche bag status.

I had an 89? I think z24 cavalier with a 2.8 v6 and a 5spd I picked up for like 500 bux to use on my 50mi each way commute to school 5 days a week. It didn't really do anything well but I did have fun beating on it and never let me down. The last week I had it the exhaust fell off and sounded like a beast. I ended up giving it to a friend who drove it for a few years. Wasn't a bad car And looked pretty sharp as well with the two tone and z24 ground affects.

the 88-90 Z24's were the preferred years of Z24. The car had been redesigned in 88 (basically 1982 underneath, but a fresh reskinning) and really looked sharp. 91-94, although having the same body lines, just didn't have 'the look' and their values, versus the 88-90 reflect that.

my friends and i in 1998:
my friend Lou with his 87 Z24, Brian with his 88 Z24 convertible, his brother Will with his 90 Z24 and me with my 91 RS:

Out of those four cars, none survived. The 87 Z was traded for a 98 Neon R/T, the 88 Z24 was destroyed in car versus semi accident on Interstate 87, the 90 Z24 was destroyed in a car versus pickup accident on NY 9N/22 and the 91 RS was left in Tennessee when I moved back to New York.

We picked up our Westfalia from the factory in 1971. 250,000km later it had driven across Europe ten times, Australia five, and supported three families; father, two sons & their families, over nearly 25 years of camping.

Underpowered it was for highways, back roads, off roads, beaches, mountains and you name it, it went there though... A typical Westy story I am sure. Neko.

They're pretty awful to replace in Beetles, yeah. A bit of a honeymoon fit.

I've had some crap wal-mart battery from an emergency in Florida 7 years ago in my TDI bug... I dunno HOW it's lasted this long since the car sits all winter. But it's still going strong.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this: when we took out the battery, in one of the recesses in the tray beneath it was a bunch of split peas and black-eyed peas! I assume a mouse left them there, but we don't have any black-eyed peas in the house, and our one bag of split hasn't been breached. Not to mention with the battery cover and insulator, that must have been one determined mouse.

Unless they were left from the factory, but then I would have expected black beans, since it was assembled in Mexico.

Yay! Put up a wanted ad on Craigslist and got a text from a fellow with an 83 water cooled westy he wanted to sell. Went to look at it yesterday and it's overall solid and all there. The only rust is a weird body seam under the camper hookups on the drivers side. Its got a factory air conditioner in the rear (rare??) thats up in where normally would be a storage compartment. Interiors all there and decent just needs a good cleaning. Nice tires and the canvas is mint ! Doesn't run cause no spark but it comes with a factory ( I think?) repair manual that looks very helpful. All this for $500 bux! I am picking her up this week I'll post some pictures!
