It's 110, twelve volt or propane, though I think you have to manually light it

^ Bingo. Just kidding, And Claire is a nice name. You got an awesome deal, the interior parts alone are worth 500.00 to someone converting a Vanagon. Happy Trails.

'83 was the first year of the Wasser Boxer. They had some issues with percolating coolant due to the long lines, but would have been fixed years ago with updates.

Neko, you must have bought your bus late '71. It's a '72 model. First year of the 'Porsche' engine. A clever marketing gimmick by dealers. It was a 1.7 Pancake engine, changed from the upright 1.6 'Beetle' engine of previous years. The 1.7 had dual carbs, the only year before the *K Jetronic fuel injection.

The carbs were said to be hard to set up. Same engine was in the first Porsche 914, called the VW Porsche in Germany. It was an excellent car, awesome neutral mid engine handling, and imo deserved to be called a Porsche. The 1.7 quickly got bored, or stroked or both, to 1.8 then 2.0. Actually they probably just made bigger heads. A small 6 was also available.

Pardon rant, memory lane, I grew up with these unique vehicles.

A few years ago, heard of a company with the brilliant name: Vanagain. They keep them running... Maybe still around.

*The 1969 VW Fastback was the first production car to have fuel injection. I had one, let it go due to needing a lot of work. I want a decent rear engine car again so bad I have to do some private Googling now.

Oh its a Dometic! Those are great fridges! They work awesome on all power sources but the one thing to watch out for is that on a hot day some of the early models which in your case might apply since its from the 80s, is that the cooling fins don't push out enough cold air, but there is an easy fix; just put inside the fridge a small fan to circulate the air enough that it works again. You can get a "battery operated refrigerator fan" from a RV supply shop like Camping World. I had to do this not a Westfalla, but rather a vintage Winnebago that had the same fridge used in the Westfalla.

And if I were you, your best bet if you will be running off the grid from 110 sources while camping, is not to use the the propane but instead just put in a 2nd battery, a deep cycle marine one at that to use. The propane is a pain to light manually and again on the early Dometic friges, the light can go out easily for weird reasons.

Yeah at this point I don't know if anything works inside. Once I clean out the massive amount of mouse shit I'll plug it into 110

The only real issue with the 914 was the fact that they'd rust in a heavy fog. I used to work at a shop that restored them and I gained a LOT of respect for those little go-karts. The highest speed I ever hit on a public road (I was in the passenger seat) was in a 914, it was a '72 that belonged to an insurance broker.. with a beefed up Boxster tranny, Kennedy Engineering adapter plate and clutch and... a Nascar Bowtie-Block 350 with twin turbos. The car didn't have a speedometer, but I can assure you that's the fastest I've been on a public road!

Jesus. He probably sold it to Jay Leno. He built a 66? Toronado converted to rear drive that puts out around 1200hp. I think the 914 was screwed together tighter than the funky X 1/9, another fun car of the time. Shame about the rust.

I've owned an X1/9, too... one of the fastest looking cars I've ever had but it was about as fast as dirt. But yeah, the 914 was much nicer to drive, and didn't catch on fire nearly as often as the Fiat. Reverse didn't work on my X1/9 so I always had to park in creative places.

It was picked up from the factory in February 1971. It was a 1600 upright Twin-Port. Neko.

Interesting; there were many differences between export models to North America models, and Euro ones. Idk if you would have got that many miles out of the 1.7. The early 70's 1.6 dual port upright was the best of that engine. I think smog control knocked it back from 60 to 48?hp in the last few years of the Beetle.

If I remember right, the last year of the non convertible Beetle in Canada and the U.S. was 1975. The little engine was choked with a catalytic converter and was on it's way out. And, the awesome Rabbit was launched in 1974. The Super Beetle convertible was available until 1979. Chic car, nothing wrong with it, but nothing special either imo.

P.S. Hey Sleeper, how about a shot of the back, I want to read the hippy stickers lol.
