F**king assholes...

Three months. Had it for three months and already someone fucked with my brand new Charger. Got shot by a paintball on the highway the other night - chipped the D-pillar and the debris scratched the trunk lid. Also means no shows for the Fiero this year; all the money I was going to use for refurbishment now goes to a paint job.

Plus; a few weeks ago I went to Great America, and when I left I found a ring of dried-up residue the size of a can of Red Bull (or some other kind of energy poison) from where the asshole parked next to me set his can on my hood. Now I should stress that I park towards the back of the parking lot, and on an end where there is a huge "buffer space" between the parking spaces and driveway - I parked way over in case someone did park next to me so they wouldnt hit me with their doors. This means someone had to have gone out of their way to do that!

At least that wiped off. I can't believe how disrespectful people have become this year - never had this shit with the other car!

It's because the charger looks like a turd to begin with. Also, people who park in the back are asking for trouble.

Can't you just get the paint touched up? Surely you don't need a whole new paint job?

over in vermont, they've dropped cinderblocks off overpasses and thrown tire irons at passing car on I-89.
i agree with the above post, though... a competent bodyshop should be able to blend that paint and fix it for less than $300 materials and labor.

and as much as I hate to suggest this, you might want to look into a knockaround car, a beater that you don't give a fuck about to do errands. i never did figure out where my Cobalt got keyed and the hood kicked in back in 08.

Only the quarter panel and trunk lid will be sprayed - most of the trunk lid scratches can be buffed out though some got down to the steel, and I don't trust it will ever look right with touch-up paint.

Incidentally, I bought this car to keep the Fiero from taking daily driver abuse. I'm almost certain it was kids thinking it's funny to mess with people's stuff.

What I hate the most: If I had not missed my turn this probably wouldn't have happened.

I've seen the ricers here get into driving paintball fights on the freeway...it's crazy.

Anyways, I'm wondering if these clowns were shooting frozen paintballs; usually paintballs don't leave that kind of mark on metal unless they have been frozen. Either way, yeah that type of damage I know can be fixed for under $250 even at places like Fix Auto.

That whole "frozen paintball" thing is a myth. The fill inside the paintball is glycol-based and does not freeze at regular freezing temperatures. Sure, liquid nitrogen might do it but...

And freezing the paintball make it swell and become very brittle, which means that it will not pass through the feed tube of the paintball gun and even if it does, the paintball will most likely explode INSIDE the canon.

As a paintball player, I believe that people who shoot paint at car shoud be shot in the face repeatedly.

Charger went for paint today, should get it back later this week.

I did not expect a Ram for a rental, though.

Sooo this shit never ends..... got it painted, found some bubbles. Took it back to have them sanded down and got the car back looking worse than my mom's daily-driver 03 Grand Prix. Swirl marks covering all the areas they painted PLUS they got the rear-passenger door, front passenger 1/4 panel, and rear-driver 1/4 panel.

When I told the manager this he claimed their "A-buffer" was on vacation when they did mine, and that they were getting several cars back with bad swirl marks. The other manager then told me they had found another glaze that was fixing it.

Took it in last week to have them removed, NOPE... still clearly visible, and when I went to the manager again he didn't even bother to come look at the car - but rather call someone from State Farm to come out instead so (in his words) they can be done with the job. State Farm guy comes tomorrow sometime and I pray like hell they tell them to fix or re-do it (even better if they send me to someone else who actually knows what they're doing). Unbelievable!

Someone good with a buffer can take care of those. Sounds like the guy that did your car was given a job he's not particularly good at. I know I'd be pissed off if any of my cars came back with swirl marks, even the wife's daily driver.

Yeah, I agree with the buffer operator not knowing what he was doing and worse got it signed off.

The person from State Farm you will be dealing with, I can't think of his title but his job is to make sure the vehicle is repaired to what level is required by your policy; usually it's pre-loss condition. State Farm is pretty good about holding that promise of you made it this far; I've seen them say "we ain't paying until you fix X and Y!"

State Farm, in my personal experience, is also very flexible. When my Cobalt SS was vandalized, the body shop, agent, company and I worked it out and I ended up getting the stripes and accents put on my car.

We've had good luck with them; when our house siding was damaged by hail they cut us a check big enough to also build our new garage. Their guy is now coming out tomorrow; they couldn't get a hold of me this morning for some reason (thanks, Verizon).

actually, the only beef I ever had with State Farm was when I hit that deer with my 98 Cavalier. I wanted all GM parts for the car. They would only pay for kappa parts... they were very apologetic and explained that the car just was not insured for enough or worth enough to justify the cost.

I had State Farm for a while myself (now with progressive) and my only beef was my agent had a dingbat for a secretary that sometimes would screw up taking statements or would typo numbers. When I had a fender bender on my Jeep, the gal didn't understand that I was able to drive from accident because my bumper was just mushed in. Several times she asked me if that was a smart idea because the other driver claimed I crumbled her rear end and all this other BS. So she typed in the computer "Mr. Skelly drove away from
The accident somehow and thought everything was fine!"

The next day, I had State Farm's investigators at my door but once I told them the story and showed them my Jeep, they showed me what the secretary wrote and said "Your story makes sense. The other driver is not getting her money."

And it continues... upon my inspection with a light, the body shop didn't even use the right paint! The panels they painted are darker than the rest of the car! What next?!

I think the problem is the amount of effort you're exerting trying to fix a quarter sized mark on a car that's only going to see many more marks and dings over it's lifetime.

It's a car, drive it and accept the risks entailed, or stick it in a showroom and look at it.

I'm not a "car guy", car shows confuse me and their patrons piss me off ... I just like driving, pushing the limits, doing stupid things and pulling it off.

You'll never get an exact match to your factory paint. They'll try to blend it in but unless you paint the entire car at the same time you'll always have some imperfection. I'd settle for loosing the swirls, only you'll know it was repaired at the end of the day.

this statement alone disqualifies you from any meaningful contribution to this conversation, Vaddy.

and gt, the body shop that did my Cobalt was did a PERFECT job matching/blending the paint on the car. That's saying something considering what 'laser blue' looks like.

my 98 Cavalier didn't come out so good... the body shop even sent the fender to the paint supplier to have it prophetized (sic?). The front fender and hood didn't match the rest of the car.
