Thinking I may need to talk to someone that actually trained out there at that time. My buddy's uncle practiced helicopter insertions out there during the Vietnam war, he may have some info also. With 40+ years of plant growth to hide it I coulda rode right past the site without even knowing. I came across old rotten pieces of plywood and part of a hinged wooden structure half buried in a ditch, which made me think I was getting close, but alas, to no avail. There are some really dense oak knolls out there, felt a bit overwhelmed at times. Still fun though. 

That is Impossible City. Heard gunfire over there yesterday. Put a damper on my plan.

I do know where there was some tunnels dug out. They were pointed out to me by my neighbor who was stationed there. I'm sure these were not the only ones, but don't get your hopes up, they caved in a long time ago. Not much there but some barbed wire and a few spots that were reenforced with wood. It's basically back to being nature. I don't know anything about a village, but I wouldn't be surprised. PM me if you have any questions, ord is literally my back yard.

Thanks Tas, sent you a PM. Not really expecting to find much, just addicted to the search. It"s becoming a weekly obsession now.

If its there Tasmith will know it. I also agree the size of this place can inspire some obsessive tendencies. If you haven't done IM city at night its something else. One of the creepiest places I've ever been.

Camping out there for a night is on my to-do list, believe me. Hoping to accomplish that this summer.

I've wanted to do the same for a couple seasons now. Let me know what your schedule is like. Like most of us I have more camping/biking equipment than time.

Thanks for the link Mr. D. Thats a really cool gesture. Good for them. It never ceases to amaze me how little the armed services care to preserve the institutions and facilities it once valued and then threw away with reckless abandon.

I totally agree with you.

I read that people are beginning to rethink the redevelopment of Fort Ord, instead of building on it, they want to turn it more of it into open space. This still means tearing down the old base, but I would rather see open space than a bunch of houses.

Also, there is a group of volunteers hoping to open a Fort Ord Museum, I hope they are successful. They are amassing an archive. "The project also seeks to preserve and restore one or more of the historic wooden military buildings (WWII era) and one or more historic masonry buildings (Korean War era) as physical artifacts of Fort Ord history."

http://foma.csumb....ord-museum-archive

Also, I really hope they do not tear down the radar tower on Mount Umunhum.
