Just using the japan example because eoghan mentioned Japan.

I can go with Taiwan too, or how about England and Wales?

England and Wales 0.41; Taiwan 0.37

I haven't read this whole thread so there's a good chance someone has said this already.

Anyone who wants to get their hands on a gun will, regardless of "gun control" laws. I personally disagree with most increased security/decreased liberty changes. Very few of them do anything to stop those who want to hurt people. The only people inconvenienced/hurt by the new systems are those that could be better utilized to help solve the problems.

Well, if you have to register your gun at purchase, they can keep a balistics sample and if your gun is ever used in a crime, it can be traced easier. That would allow responsible people to keep their guns and criminals to lose their guns. Yeah I know it isn't perfect, but it's better then the previous suggestion of 'bins of guns' free for everyone on every street corner.

A gun should be a privledge like a driver's license, too many offences and you lose your license or your guns. I don't have a problem with people owning personal firearms and I'm a Canadian, most of us have never seen a real gun.

It stands to reason that gun control keeps guns out of the hands of who? The common man. Any criminal with the desire to own a gun will go down criminal avenues and acquire said weapon. While less and less upstanding citizens have guns due to the hassle etc.

So now we have the criminals who we do not want to be armed getting the guns regardless, and the average joe les likely to have a gun.

This works in the favor of the criminal in that he now knows that he's less likely to be confronted with a gun when using one against the average joe.

If more people had easier access to guns, in theory, the criminals would be more unsure of who they can safely victimize.

or on the other hand they'll just shoot you in the back of the head because you might have a gun with witch to defend yourself.....either way

Do you also recommend giving everyone a car to drive around in? No matter how stupid and incapable they are of not driving over people on the sidewalk?

Guns (particularly when used for cowardly reasons -- and namely, handguns), seem to me, to be a way of 'compensating' for something that one lacks below the waistline.

There, I said it.

So when I have only seconds to decide if my family is going to live or die, I should wait for the police, who are minutes away, or I have a small penis? I don't think you really want to have a cock waving contest with me. Internet dick waving? Fine. Real thing? You'll lose hombre.

Fuck that. I have never shot anyone that didn't earn it. You want gun control? Use both hands.

This ^

I've got a CCW and no one knows that I'm carrying unless its close friends or family. It has nothing to do with compensating for a small wang or any of that shit since people will never know I have it unless they are a threat to me or another innocent person.

I sincerely hope that I never have to use it but I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6

I don't know ANYONE who owns a gun, and aside from being in the Military, I have NEVER carried a gun/rifle or EVEN seen a gun/rifle outside in the public (in Canada)

Is there THAT much a difference between Canada and the USA with this? (this IS a serious question)

I can't even IMAGINE owning a gun for ANY purpose what-so-ever. If Atomx brought home a gun I would fucking shoot him WITH it.

I know anyone who DOESN'T own one (yes I am serious). I have used and carried them many many times, even in public a few. I can't imagine NOT owning one and if my girl brought one home I'd kiss her and make room for the new addition.

Different cultures man.. I grew up with them and you didn't.

also the Japanese have a MUCH more homogeneous society then we have in the states.

Its been said, but criminals will obtain guns reguardless of any "gun law". I like how someone said the whole give everyone car or license argument. Um, cause no one has ever stole, or bought a car with or without a license. Right? I am for NO gun control laws. Not on type or amount anyway. Ya want a fully automatic Surburban mounted assult rifle be my guest. Doubt your going to rob the 7-11 with it.

gun laws do nothing to control crime.
all gun laws do is restrict law-abiding citizens.

a criminal is going to get a gun by any means possible... he's not going to register the fucking thing and then go commit a crime.

Why, exactly do you want to take my guns away?

Why do gun control people so often resort to personal attacks? Doesn't that clearly show that they are not interested in anything less than a complete suppression of gun ownership?

First, I didn't see any personal attacks.

Second, TB's comment about compensations also applies to the criminals. You would have to have your head up your ass not to hear compensation talk in gangster rap.

Third, DC has a point. I'm very nervous of a state that will try to take away a form of power away from the masses. An unarmed populace vs an armed state would just be terrible. When talking about crime and criminals, the more laws we have, the more criminals there will be. If things like pot, mushrooms and acid were legalized, the prisons would empty. "Criminals" would become respectable citizens. Then you go after the real dangerous drugs like meth and black market weapons. Why are there gangs? Drug territory. Why are there robberies? Drug money. Same with prostitution. You think that most prostitutes are saving up for a house and car? No. It's all drugs.
