Not what I would have bought with my own money, but it's on loan and kind of a gift, so I won't say no. The engine is far from puny, and it has plenty of torque, but I'm gunning for a 4x4 next.

Honestly this car does haul ass. It weakness is the front wheel drive configuration but does have some power.. Still have the car. Bought it in 2007 brand new, payed off with 58,000 miles on it now. Do not drive it much.

Me too! Going to the mountains a lot this summer made me want to buy a cheap rock crawler. My Subaru can handle pretty much anything up to Jeep trails, but there is no replacement for locking diffs, 38" tires, and ground clearance measured in feet. I'm thinking either a Cherokee, an FJ60 Land Cruiser, or a Scout.

Thanks! I've spent quite a bit of time and dollars getting it to the place where I want it. It will never be a trail truck, but it is what I would consider a reliable adventure vehicle. I added a 4" lift kit, rebuilt the front end, added a new stereo and speakers, a CB radio, driving lights, and new BFG TAs. A few more maintenance remaining maintenance items and it should be pretty well done. It got it's first workout a couple of weekends ago (where the photo was taken) in a badly washed out track on the way to a mine adit.

i drove a new base Impala with the 4 cylinder... it was like this little 2.5L didn't know it was a 2.5L. I flatfooted it and that fat sedan actually lit the front tires up. What a gutsy little engine!
