I had discovered this relatively unknown gem, about two years ago. I had grand visions of shooting the milky way above it, yada yada yada...

I drove 8 hours to get to it, only to find that it was gone! All that remained was indentations in the field where it once stood. You can imagine how devastated I was and I came back home empty handed.

I researched more and found that the guy who had built this, died, and the family ended up donating the stones to a local city. The city sat on them for another year and then finally set them back up in the middle of town. I was very bummed about this, as the original location was very remote and dark.

But, I persevered and vowed to make another trip out here and finally get my shot. Well, another 8 hour trip, I arrived to find an un-announced thunderstorm moved in and I sat in the car, watching the rain pour down and the skies cloudy - no milky way shot for me!

I waited for several hours, trying to find a shot, as this installation is now right next to a business park, and there is a big baseball field right behind it. It was also lit with cheezy cheap landscape lights all around it. Again, I was super bummed.

But, then I noticed that I could actually swivel the lights they installed, away from the stones and I found this particular angle where the buildings and baseball field are not visible... then... the skies let up and it stopped pouring, so I quickly got into place and snapped as quickly as I could, while running around lighting the stones by hand.

In the end, I didn't get the shot that I had envisioned, but at least I got a shot!

Nice job man! I remember seeing this place about 15 or 20 years ago when it was at the original location. sad to hear they moved it to such an unfitting location but at least it still exists.
