Did you see any activity on the lower levels? I saw workers there recently and think their activity is somehow related to the remodeling going on next door at the Carter Building.

Yeah, it looked like they are still remodeling it into a club but I've only ever been there once so I have nothing to compare it to.

Oh and while we were trying to figure out how to get into Battlestein's we actually ended up going next door and saw pretty much the whole thing - I think except the bottom floors.

Rev what is that slipper slide thing in the photo? Was that like a coal chute, or a mail slide? Haunted house? Nice photos.

Thanks! That is the infamous Haslett Chute and Conveyor Co. fire escape system. I shit you not. It's a spiral slide that has a door on every floor leading to this exit near the front of the building. It's obviously seen better days.

I will never do it again but myself and Jason slid down that chute a few years back. Lots of rust and bird shit.

crap! that looks more like a trash chute than a fire escape. but I guess if you are on fire, it would seem like a good idea.
