That's an antique adding machine. I'm trying to think of how to word this so it's understandable lol... There are no zeros because you enter each of the figures one at a time. Say you were trying to get 6098... You'd press the "6" in the thousands column, you would press no button at all in the hundreds, "9" in the tens and "8" in the ones. Then you press the add button and then begin the next figure. Some of those are very rare

Each number button stays depressed until you lock it in and start the next number.

You beat me. It's technically called a comptometer, and it is indeed an adding machine

Yup, as previously said it's a comptometer. More or less the great-great-grandaddy of modern calculators. They're actually really cool old pieces of kit if you like looking into old mechanical stuff.

I remember at school there was an adding machine like that one in one of the drama rooms as a prop.

I never remember seeing it in us, but did have an experimental press of the keys.

If felt very heavy, like an old typewriter.
