Places you can't quite access

So the other day while driving to a friend's house I noticed a driveway that had been cracked and semi overtaken by plants. So I stored the location on my phone and checked it once I got home on Google earth. Sure enough, some kind of building was down that long driveway.

Today I set out to explore it. It turned out to be a home. Not exactly a mansion, but one of the coolest home I've come across. The architecture was amazing. I could not wait to explore this place, however the realtor sign at the end of the driveway had me concerned. Sure enough, all possible entry ways were locked shut. A quick look at the meter showed the house was still receiving power, and the building had quite a few ADT security signs.

Such a shame, you could tell nobody had been to the property in a long time, but it was still way to high risk and no way in. Doing some research I found the property is worth over one million dollars.

Feel free to share stories of promising locations you were unable to enter.

Pennsylvania.

The area I live around has some pretty nice houses but as far as I know they don't go for millions.

I'm also not sure of the exact price. An address search came up with a few sites. One saying 1,100,000 and another saying 3,500,000.

TV tower is one of the symbols of my hometown. I have dozens of pictures , taken from various rooftops all over the town with a view to it. But the access of TV tower is very strict - its possible to climb the highest level only if you work as a technician there. One of my explorer friends works in this 'radio-wave-transmitting' thingie so he had a chance to work there.

But for ordinary people like me, it's just impossible.

To the OP, just call the freaking real estate agent and tell them you want to look at the house. If you are young or otherwise questionable in appearance just tell them you were hired on behalf of a relative who is moving into the area to scout out and photograph some potential houses.

That being said, there is a (I think 12+ story) silo facility in my town that is related to concrete aggregate. For years I've wanted to get to the top because it offers a unique vantage point where I could photograph my hometown and do a nice time lapse photo because there's an interstate that weaves through the view.

There are so many near misses but I have moods where I just chickenshit out really fast and bail. So most of them are my fault.

The one that wasn't quite so much a thing I didn't get to get at, but a story I never got, was this place out in... Jesus, Goehner? NE? We're putzing along the freeway like we do, and my car started making a super weird noise so I pull over because it almost sounded like I'd popped a flat or something. I hadn't, a little piece of plastic had just come down from a crack in the shielding around a tire so I drove in to the nearest exit to pop it back in place and in the process, we pass this big sign in a dude's yard that says A DREAM DIED HERE. And there's all kinds of weird stuff in behind it, old janky buildings but right away they just didn't look quite like derelict farm facilities. And then we saw a 'saloon' sign above one of them? Park in the gas station across the way, bumble across the road with my two friends, and stand on the shoulder peering.

Sure enough, old man comes out. I decided to feel intrepid and went up and asked him about it. Evidently 'because retired people go crazy' (his words), he and his grandkids over the years had built this entire like... frontier village on his property. He gave us a tour. There was a big mud house built by the same process as a local Native American tribe as well; he told us they put these things up in a matter of weeks back in the day when it was the main kind of dwelling but it had taken him and the kids a year.

After describing in loving detail all of the different things they'd put together, how they (ostensibly) related to area history, and all the people from the town when it was bigger who used to come out and bring their kids, kids having graduation pictures taken there, all that stuff, he never mentioned that sign. He did say something about us being lucky we came out when we did because developers wanted to put a(nother) gas station on that corner and in a few years it might be gone. Ultimately we didn't ask. It still ranks among one of the strangest encounters we've had while looking for abandoned shit to trespass all over.

There are also two brick houses, separately about an hour from my town in different directions, that I have not quite satisfied myself are actually unoccupied. Those are the ones that are sticking me the worst right now. They're both only proximal to busy state highways so I haven't had a good opportunity for a slow drive-by. One day.

It's got a pretty sweet bomb shelter in the lower level. Really cool house and the front door was left unlocked last time I was there.

There is a place just down the road from my work. It is a "all in one" type place for weddings or other events. It includes several large banquet halls, a decently large hotel and a bar/club. Me and my friends used to frequent the bar quite often when it was open. They had 2 for 1 drinks on Tuesdays. It has been closed for several years now, but it is for sale/lease. Power is still going to it as far as I know, and I imagine it has a alarm. Even more problematic, a local dealership uses the large parking lot to store new cars and trade ins. This means pretty regular traffic during the day and heavy police patrols at night. I would not be surprised if they have cameras in the lot as well, considering how much money in inventory is sitting there. I would LOVE to get in this place, especially since I was there when it was still open. But not really sure it the reward is worth the risk.

I think I see a POE on that one. And I'd really love to know the story behind that and the one in the background.

There's a very large, very old hotel in the downtown area of my hometown. It's been abandoned for decades now. I've always been hesitant to even try since the police station is within probably a few hundred feet. But somehow, someway, a handful of local ghost hunting groups manage to sneak in and post their "findings" all over social media. One of them even posted a picture from the rooftop looking over!

I'm tempted to ask how they got in, but I have a feeling they probably had legal access through the owner.

There's an old woman's sanctuary that belongs to a church downtown that looks awesome but everything is sealed tight and I'm not breaking my way in. It used to be accessible but someone set it on fire and I'm pretty sure the neighbors were complaining to the city about homeless people living there so they sealed it up tight.

No pics but have found quite a few, those properties with an active new house very close to the old empty one. Hate that!

There is also a very old house at an active marina in my area, no way you are sneaking in, but I did ask the owners for permission. They said no way, the floor is gone. Can't even see in the windows but it is an old school house complete with bell in the tower.

The amount of times that we have exclaimed 'FUCK YOUR NICE HOUSE!' because we saw the abandoned one through the trees, came up on the property only to find that the owners had built a new one in the goddamn yard... we joke that FYNH is the name of our "urbex crew" and that we will one day print sweatshirts.

Got stopped at the giant grain silo in the Mid-Atlantic. The guy was fairly friendly about it, though. Afterwards, I decided the best course of action was to come to UER to complain about it.

I've dropped by this abandoned school in Columbus several times but have never been able to find a way in. Somebody has been pretty diligent about keeping it shuttered and even paints over graffiti. I can understand why because it's had problems with vandalism and people setting it on fire but I want to see the inside! Unfortunately, the building is on borrowed time. It's right next to a freeway interchange and there are plans to demolish it because of an upcoming project.
