| | | Posted by NotBatman Well... that depends. Technically any shot that illuminates things where there is no light would qualify as "light painting." This is light painting: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5334/8833164554_901c5026f1.jpg Tuberculosis - Long by NotBatman, on Flickr So it this: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7386/8932697734_72fde83948.jpg Bannz - CockMonster by NotBatman, on Flickr This kind of "light painting" I really get into and enjoy, when it's done well. (And to be perfectly honest, the second one could have used some more work. I still like it, though, because the subject matter cracks me up.) Now, the weird twirly shit with light bars and such? I've seen decent examples of it, but mostly yeah, it's overplayed. That fucking steel wool garbage, though... That shit's just got to go!
| These are great, man. Only 27 photos on Flickr? I just made my first lightpainting pics a few days ago. I'll put them in the photo forum.

| | | Posted by sirpsychosexy I love lightpainting when it's done nicely, with sweet color temperatures and not too many different ones in 1 picture. I see that Calvin Kaneda is very good at what he does, but I don't like color stuff. Just seems so random and fake to me, like someone just Photoshopped in some green windows here and there. But it's a matter of taste of course, and luckily a lot of people do like his work. I'm often in places where lightpainting is necessary, as there is zero light inside. Here's an example of what I mostly do (it's more documenting than being artsy 90% of the time): http://www.basdemo...149/V149FDS_40.jpg
| I agree with you 100%. I wouldn't even put myself anywhere close to most of the photographers that do light painting. When I was starting out I hung out with a couple of really good photographers that did a lot of light painting. I picked some stuff up here and there. I love your style and your skills are rad. I wish mine were as good. But for the record, I am of the same way of thinking- documentation with natural looking light. 1. Untitled by Calvin Kaneda, on Flickr 2. Untitled by Calvin Kaneda, on Flickr For most of these shots, there was zero natural light available. I know I have a fair amount to learn about color temperature as well as a number of other things. Again, I love your style, nice and smooth and appropriate, natural looking light that is true to history. And again, my skills are nowhere near yours or most of the photographers that call themselves "Light Painters". (With the Sci-Fi nuclear radiation fallout colors.) As far as fireworks emitting from a magic va-jay-jay shooting laser rainbows, weird twirly shit with light bars, and crazy rad trails from spinning steel wool? I’ll leave that out of my photos and in my head for when I’m trippin balls on LSD and listening to TooL. (No offence steel wool spinners!)
