I appreciate the nudge. But, for us, it is just as much about meeting the people who do it as it is about the actual exploring. No, we are not cops. We are grad students who are interested in the culture around urban exploration and everything to do with it. The kicker is that we aren't just studying it. We really want to do it, scratches, bruises, cops and all. Whatever happens happens. We are certainly willing to take all the risks involved and keep up with whoever decides to help us.

You're probably far better off without the cops, haha. Try getting into some of the restricted areas of your college; rooftops are a good start. The National Register of Historic Places website and Bing Maps are your friends as well; I've found some good stuff on the NRHP, and if you're not sure of the status of it (although there is a section of the site for supposed vacant/not in use buildings), that's where the birds eye feature on Bing Maps comes into play. Also just a general Google search for "abandoned" + your area might yield some results; local newspaper websites are sometimes useful for stuff like that, or at least around here they are. Also, as was mentioned by someone else, just lurk around the boards a bit and pay attention to the posts in Mid-Atlantic forum. There's also the public entries in the UE Database that might be of assistance. Another idea is to ask your parents/grandparents/other elders; they're more useful than you might at first think. If you were in New England, I'd be more than happy to offer my assistance, but unfortunately, Richmond is a waaaaays away from New Hampshire. Good luck and happy exploring! Can't wait to see what you guys find.
