| | | I've had good luck with a handful of lights. My primary is a $15 energizer Wal-mart head lamp, it has flood, distance, combo, and red, lasts forever. in 2 years I've changed the batteries 3 times? and I use it semi-frequently (10-15 (maybe more, I lost count) expos and then power outages, night, etc). I have a photon fusion head lamp, it's nice, but doesn't have the throw of the energizer, and it cost about 3x as much. I carry a 6watt 3-AAA Dorcy light with battery indicator. Has about 6 hour runtime, bright as all get out (lights a room better then a mag). It cost about $60, but it's solid and I take it everywhere, superb light. I've taken to carrying 3-d mag as well, get this, after being chased by stoners, out of a drain. I'm glad as I had it even though I didn't use it, but I would not hesitate to use it as a weapon if I got in a spot that needed it, hence why I carry other lights (in the event I break or drop the mag). It also has excellent throw, and isn't too bad to carry (I usually tuck it under my belt). I take it to any sketchy areas, and like I said, stuff happens from time to time; in response to the post earlier about carrying mags as weapons. My advice to the new guys (and gals): take a few lights, have backups, be prepared to spend a few bucks, be prepared to break things (I dropped my camera while running from said stoners, shutter button is a paper clip for now), and spend money on lights. I've read enough stories of people's lights failing, and it doesn't sound like fun. Apologies for writing the essay, but this is supposed to be helpful (I hope) Good luck out there!
