| | | The Fate of Hayden Flour Mill < on 4/4/2008 7:08 PM >
| | | The Hayden Flour Mill in Tempe has been under serious lock and key since the substructures dating back to the 1800's were discovered last year. Now it seems that a company (Avenue Communities) has proposed to do what the City of Tempe has been promising for years. Develop it into a mixed use facility utilizing the historic structure. Here is the full Article. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23822468/ Security has really been beefed up since the findings of the Canal and some stonework from the original mill dating back to 1874. I would say infiltration at this point would be almost impossible due to the location of the mill and full time security now that the site has "historic importance". While this will be one less abandoned place for the already scarce Phoenix area scene, I am glad to see that they will be using some of the original structure.

| | | oh, how i loathe that term. 'mixed use'. which basically means a bunch of cookie-cutter condos on top of a strip mall. at least it'll look cool, if it actually gets built.

| | | Yea, I agree with your meaning of the word "mixed use". Being a history buff I hold out hope that they will stay true to their word and display some of the historical aspects of the structure.

| | | This used to not be gaurded so much. I think around 5 or 6 years ago, there wasn't even fences around it. I think there is 3 different groups watching this now. Tempe PD, Private Security, and ASU Campus Security.
