| | | I use one of these:
Streamlight Stinger, it's not the LED version, but it's still bright as hell, and it's not bulky like a Maglite.

| | | i use a Surefire G2, with the upgraded P61 bulb (120 lumen output) and i LOVE it. would never do any UE without it. I usually carry that along with a standard minimag. Sometimes ill swap out the P61 bulb in my surefire for the P60 bulb, so as to not attract as much attention and to increase battery life. Im thinking about getting the LED version of the bulb for my surefire ($35, 80 lumens, way longer battery life) but dont really have the money to spare right now.

| | | Hi Bander87 I finally got my Arc AAA Premium flashlight this morning. I like the very small size, and it fits well in my jacket nestled snugly next to my Fisher Space Pen. They seem to be two pees in a pod d/t them looking similar in appearance. I was a little disappointed regarding the light/lumen output. It's comparable to the tiny LED lights (i.e.- the UER keychain light sold here at the UER Swag section for $5.00) that are now common. It's a good thing you got yours as a gift from a friend, since you did not have to shovel out any money for it. At $49.55 (includes shipping), it is not worth the price to purchase.

| | | I'm considering building my own light. I have an 8-LED cluster that is powered by two 'C' batteries. The plan is to build them into a secure tube. Two 'C' batteries aren't very long when put end to end, so I'm hoping to include storage space in the light. Picture a maglight that takes 4 D batteries, it'll be that big, but most of the space is storage. Any thoughts or tips?

That's an excellent idea interchanging the P60 with the P61 bulb at intervals to extend the life of the more costly and precious P61. It never crossed my mind to do that. One thing I do with my SureFire flashlights is to use the tactical switch to just press in brief pulses as needed instead of just turning the tailcap to the "on" position. It extends the life of the bulb and batteries extensively. Also, if you can afford it in the future, try picking up a SureFire G3. It uses P90 and P91 bulbs, which are even brighter than the P60 series. I gave my dad the LED version of the G2. It's good, but does not throw the light as far as the incandescent regular bulbs (P60 and P61) do. The light is "whiter", but there is a loss in distance/throw. I seem to prefer distance for most of my UE exploring.

Seems like a waste of time to me. There are so many great lights out there. You can always buy & return untill you find the perfect light. Unless it is for shits n giggles? But thats just my opinion.

| | | Just my $0.02, I use a cheap energizer headlamp I got at wal-mart for about $15 or so. It has 2 spot (for distance) leds, 2 flood leds, and 2 red leds, and can do any of the above alone, or do all the white leds together, and gets at least 25 hour burn time (minimum), per the package, to 75 for red leds, I love it, and it was cheap. Only issue is it seems to shine in your eyes a tad if you point it down, so i put about 1 cm piece of duct tape on the bottom as a shield, and it works great, especially considering the price. I've also been using a coast led lenser, single bulb. love that thing, it's super bright and quite small, and has a wrist strap. got it at Costco for like $25, but that was a year ago.

| | | I got something like this for Christmas
Never needs batteries or bulbs. Has 5 LEDs that last around 30 minutes after turning the built in crank for a minute. It also comes with adapters for all types of cell phones. 3 minutes of cranking will charge a cell phone enough to make an emergency call lasting 5-10 minutes. And its no bigger than my wallet. Certainly not my main flashlight, but its great for emergency.

| | | Just wondering, Does anyone know a headlamp that is of good quality that has both white and red modes? (either multiple LEDs or built in filters) I was lookin at the Princeton Tec EOS Tactical, but was wondering if other people know other ones that may be better then it, or just alternatives to think about..

| | | I just got a surefire 6p led 9p w surefire p60l drop in a used 6p with a cheep ebay led drop in. I also got an m35 red filter. i really like these lites im going to attach a lanyard to my belt cant afford to loos them. From what i see CANDLE POWER FORUMS doesnt like us very much. They also have a bunch of surefire knockoffs fore a little cheeper im not sure that i would trust them switches & cheep leds. I would suggest carrying a good quality lite as a backup. Any lite that takes a P 60 style bulb would accept a surefire P60 L drop in. Check out the surefire lights you can get them cheeper on ebay.

| | | I used to use the Tikka Plus, until I splurged a bit, now I'm using the 14 LED Petzl Duo, thats in addition to Mini Maglites on my belt. As far as I'm concerned you can't beat hands free lighting, but then my main experience is in natural caves, where a headlight is essential. At 35 USD the Tikka Plus is an excellent investment, good light, great on batteries, and hands free.

I have one of these sorts of things tucked away in my camera bag in case the other two or three battery-powered torches die. Question, though - does anyone make a headlamp equivalent?

Oooh! That sounds terribly handy. Do you have a link for the actual product, pezking? I can't seem to find it on that smarthome website.

I did a quick ebay search and found that model, along with many variations on the theme. No headlamp ones, though. Perhaps one integrated into a propeller hat would work - then I could spin the propeller, charge the lamp, and look cool at the same time.

| | Looking for a new torch. <Reply # 117 on 3/3/2008 3:20 AM >
| | | I've got a whole bunch of lights, most of them nice too, but I'm looking for yet another, and wondering if I can get some recommendations. Looks for one that: 1) Comes with a red filter that screws/clips on 2) Powered by AA or AAA batteries 3) Tactical aluminum (or similar) design 4) Nylon belt pouch or some kind of clip preferred but not required

get a cheap mag lite aa and wear it around your neck like I do with a lanyard. When you drop it, lose it or break it your only out $15. As for filters cut a piece of gel out and slap it in there, very few flash lights come with these as attachments and if they do you can rarely get replacements.

| | | I got a light that has red and green gels for a single LED torch. My advice, go to your local Walmart, Target, K-Mart, Wherevermart, and just look at their lights, you might be surprised what you will find.
