| | | Guys, I'm passing through Halifax on my way to Moncton, NB in early May (most likely the 7th or 8th): would anyone be up for hooking up and having a look around the general area? Cheers! Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

I'll let you all know days and dates when I do - there's a while yet to plan stuff, right? Right now I'm looking into hiring a car for my time in Halifax... Should make getting around to locations less of a chore. If you want to post some idea of locations in the meantime though, I'm totally all ears! Chris...

| | | I would LOVE to see the hospital and indeed the park where TPB was/is filmed... Might well be worth a look, hey? I'm still pissed off that they knocked down the Halifax Infirmary just two weeks before my first visit!! Halifax OWES me a hospital!! :-p Chris...

| | | Yeah, I see that - the hospital was mostly used for the 'prison' scenes while the park itself is around the back/sides, hey? Looking at this: http://www.uer.ca/...l.asp?picid=252979 Very convenient!! Either way, how does it look for access? Chris...

| | | There are two ways into the building, but to get on top of the hill, go up the side of the property, near the woods.

| | | the only issue with the hospital is I am told it is being used as police training as well. Not sure how true this is. We went to go about three weeks ago and there was about ten cop cars parked outside and some police standing around drinking coffee...this sort of confirmed the rumour for me.

| | | Awesome. By the way, anyone know what the parking lot and red barn across the street are used for? It's a big well kept parking lot, and looks like there's some trail heads off of it... I had no idea there were trails in that area! (aside from, of course, the salt marsh trail) [last edit 2/23/2008 5:09 PM by hfx_chris - edited 1 times]

| | | That's parking for the Salt Marsh Trail as well, those trails go all over that area. Also, over the other side of that hill are the foundations for the original rehab centre. The one that's being use for TPB was only put up in the early 20th century, and before that was used for farmlands maintained by the residents of the original rehab center (back when it was called "Cole Harbour Mentally Insane Asylum").

| | | Superb, I had no idea the salt marsh trail encompassed such a large area, I thought it was just the actual salt marshes themselves! I know where I'm bringing my bike this summer...

| | | The police training doesn't put me off too much - a lot of the old places around Scotland way are used for the same thing... In fact, it can be a good thing: especially if you get there after they have been training how to kick down exterior doors! Chris...

| | | Which might explain why the last time I was there, the bottom floor had a pair of dual doors wide open...kinda pissed me off though...I climbed through soo much junk just to find out 3 hours later that the door was open...

| | | Right so I'll be in Halifax Friday the 23rd of May and flying out on the 24th (Sat) to get back to the UK. I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to rent a car when I'm there, so who's up for some 'sploring? Failing that, who's up for a meet / drink / coffee / dinner, whatever !? Chris...
