| | | There was talk a month or so ago about an over night "campout" inside the Baker. Some other issues have come up in the last few weeks, but what about doing this sometime late summer or fall, anyone still interested?

| | | Has anyone heard any updates on the pending sale that was being talked about? I know that another member wanted to go too. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the overnight trip was his concept. But since some other issues have come up, he won't be able to go for a while. I don't know if the building is still up for grabs, if things might change in the next 6 months or so.

| | | I think it would be a fun trip since that hotel is supposed to be very haunted anyway.

I've heard bits and pieces about it, but nothing concrete...However, when we were there last month grass cutting crew showed up and gave hotel's lawn pretty deep trim. What does that mean is anyone's guess, but abandoned site does not get "cleaned up" for no reason.

2X, you practically own that place, UE speaking anyway. I'm getting pissed off now. I think I'm the only Texas explorer that has NOT been in the Baker.

| | | It has been sold but I've been told the new owner is a little busy down in Austin. He's trying to get that new gambling law passed so he can turn the whole thing into a casino. Speaking of staying the night, I've done it once but I would surely do it again. We'd have to sneak in on different shifts or something. BTW, has anybody noticed the old abandoned victorian house that sits behind the Baker? What a great surprise!

That place has been remodeled and repainted. It appeared occupied. When we were there last month it had cars parked in front of it. [last edit 4/7/2007 9:05 AM by Allva - edited 1 times]

| | | I took my daughter and her friend to the Baker over Labor Day for some light (exterior-only) exploration. They loved it, though they certainly wanted to explore further... the building pretty much begs you to come inside. Not much in the way of pics, since all I had was my camera phone. But if you look closely at this one, you can see a buzzard circling and another buzzard perched on the roof. Buzzards nest in abandoned buildings, which clearly shows their intelligence and good taste.
Grass growing in the gutter is one thing. But check out this cactus growing out of the eaves!
The place needs a good cleaning. Fortunately, someone left us a vacuum to get the job started.
The girls spent the whole trip back to Dallas working on their plans to buy the Baker and restore it to its former glory. I'm sure they'll offer a discount to UER members. Meanwhile, I've put the Crazy Water Festival on my calendar: see you there October 13.
