| | | Posted by frecklepuss Lots of good info on the way things are handled here. Lots of butt hurt too. . . . ANYWAYS, I wasn't expecting to get scolded this bad...
| I'm honestly trying to find the scolding and the butthurt... Sure, there's a little snark, but it's the internet/UER, you're just not going to get away from that. I see a fair few helpful posts that people took their time to actually write, all of it pretty on-message: Get in touch. No one offered to suck your dick, it's true, but man if you want to see scolding and butthurt and drama I'm sure we can sure scrounge up a few links... Posted by frecklepuss Sorry if any of you were the ones getting finger blasted/doing the finger blasting. I feel bad for interrupting and I shouldn't have put you on blast in the forum... Hopefully your broken foot healed okay and you don't have to climb all those stairs on crutches anymore. My apologies.
| 'sall good, bro.

ANYWAYS, I wasn't expecting to get scolded this bad. I'm used to the smart ass comments like the one about how everyone moved to Australia, which is obviously not true since all the photos aren't upside down. Nice try.
| As NotBatman said...I don't see any scolding here. You really approached it in kind of a terrible way: "Everyone here still dicks?" "We're good dicks who don't like our locations ruined from internet forums. Message us and we'll talk" "Stop scolding me" Silly. You should take the advice here and get to know people. When I lived in Texas I flew to MSP more than once and was always welcome with open arms, legs, mouths, caves, and tunnels. As much as I hate the weather there...I love the people. You should take time to stop whinging and make friends. Posted by Slim Jim People still explore in MSP? the real danger with said caves was caused by the city and the city alone - filling them with dangerous concrete and rebar combo plus sealing the entrances trapping the smoke from the fires the idiot kids set. No one talks about these things. Safest path forward would be to open up all the entrances and remove the rubble, back to the original sandy floor with many entrances nearby and they're safer than hiking around the woods on the surface.
| I rarely take the time to agree with you, bud, but this is the truest thing ever. Though, in all fairness one of my favorite caves is the briar patch of rebar...

| | | Posted by Slim Jim The second step to becoming a successful explorer in MSP is to refrain from fracturing the tips of all your fingers at once. Because then you can't explore anything except your couch.

| | | Posted by Derpyfingers Ill offer some of my thoughts from the perspective of a new guy.. Judging by the 6 year time stamp on your account, you've been at this a lot longer than myself. Maybe you've just had bad experiences and maybe I just got lucky.. However I do see what you mean about this 'weird vibe' and general hostility of the MSP community you speak of, when I first got into this whole thing I was a bit intimidated myself. This has pretty much already been said, but in a nutshell, the MSP community is like this is because there is an ever decreasing amount of cool shit here, and an ever increasing number of utterly stupid people to fuck it up. There are many fine examples of word getting around to the wrong people in this area and having spots completely ruined because of it.
Pretty much every time something gets heated on this forum, at least from what I've noticed, there has been a reason for it, and that reason is because someone, knowingly or not, did something stupid. Such as posting pictures of entrances, pictures of themselves vandalizing cool shit, disclosing sensitive information and the list goes on. The cops aren't completely daft and they do know what the internet is, and I would not be surprised if there are cops on this forum checking to see which locations are hot. Simply acknowledging the fact that you were at a location or that it even exists is sometimes enough to compromise it, let alone posting detailed and revealing pictures.
UER is a good place to make your "try hard noob" posts, in hopes someone notices you and sends you a PM, and not much else. I have made several such posts here myself. like it has been said already, UER is a place to make initial connections, not a place for you to post all of your pictures and talk about exactly how you got in or where a place is. UER is how I connected with the people I went on my first mission with, and these people did not reach out to me because I came at them bitching about how they run things or their attitude. They reached out to me because I demonstrated a basic level of respect for what they do and where they do it, and showed that I was willing to do things their way and pass that knowledge to everyone I know as repayment for what they have shown me. These people are the ones who are more experienced, they have the know how, the plans, the maps and the connections. So why not try to make friends with them? It is true, at least the people that I have met, that they are all very nice people and once you connect with them in REAL LIFE that they have a lot to offer and are willing to share as long as you can prove yourself. Everyone can wear and hide behind the mask of their username, which is why this community values personal interaction. As I've come to know these people I have stopped using this forum, because frankly with stuff like this, as little as possible should be made public online. If you want to explore the Sekret Tunnelz then go fucking find them or demonstrate enough respect to have someone show them to you. I understand why this forum exists, because yes everyone likes to share what they have done and connect with and talk to others about it, but if people REALLY value these places and everything that the community here stands for, then they should seriously think about what they post here. IT also seems to be an MSP culture thing. If you walk on over to some indigenous African tribe and tell them that the way they are living is wrong and your way is superior, they will not take kindly to it and probably lop off your genitals and play catch with them. I think this is why you feel this community is hostile. Like I said, I felt the same way in the beginning but I just continued to do my thing and not piss anyone off and now I know how knowledgeable, kind, and accepting these people are. Just gotta keep the fuckwits out, and that is no easy task. Time has shown what being open about this stuff can do, which is why I think the community is so withdrawn. People fuck shit up, and the people who actually care don't want shit fucked up so they try to find out if a person has desirable qualities before they share anything.
Adjust your perspective.
| I consider UER a place to find people who like to explore and to share knowledge pertaining to exploring and photography. Not a place to -find- locations especially if you are new here. If you can't find anything to explore, you don't belong here; there's always something. I've meet people from UER, gleaned a few sites as well including access info to most notably Beth Steel. That info help keep me from being busted. However that's not why I joined. Only after I had established myself and was a FM did I seek access info and that was rarely. When I first joined I had my exploring and ethics well developed from decades of doing it, long before the internet existed. Trail and error was how I learned. Seeing them and legwork is how I found locations. Many dead ends along the way. I loathe FNGs that beg for sure kill sites. Really? There are enough threads on UER they can access to learn what is acceptable here and what is not... if they only would read. This site is easy as cake, but some make it seem like a ride through hell I think the first things a FNG new to the hobby *rolls eyes* needs to learn is enough safe practices to avoid being maimed or killed, to avoid being busted especially on felony charges, and to avoid getting sites destroyed. Yes, you can really fuck up bad if you don't have a clue. Many here, including myself have come very close to being seriously injured or killed. A few unfortunately have had misfortunes exploring to spite being very experienced. Learn from our mistakes by reading the posts on UER. Before you start asking for locations, learn to find them yourself, and how to explore them safely. Learn the federal and state laws that pertain to what you are going to explore before you do it. To do this well there's a lot to learn; start with easy sites. Each person has their own style and ways to deal with people and LEOs. You will need to develop these skills too eventually or suffer from lacking them.
