| | | Happy Halloween! Since you clicked through, I'll assume you can handle what lies ahead. Wouldn't want to spoil it! This location was tipped off to me via email. These photos are his; when I visited I only had my iPhone, and it was less than useless in this level of darkness. It used to be some type of funeral home/chapel/mausoleum. It appears to have been abandoned for at least 15 years. It's also completely underground- with only one set of doors for the entire building. We went at night- I'm usually not nervous about abandonments, but this one had me keyed up a few notches. Without further ado, let's begin!
----------- This is the room you walk into upon entering the building. One assumes that this is the room where the ceremonies were held. Note the respirator filter. There was visible mold in the building, and the air was not easy on the lungs. This is the first room in the left wing of the building. All of these caskets were empty- they appear to have been the display models for the place. Here's the back room of the left wing. This (empty) room is for final storage of the deceased. Here's the prep room, in the right wing. In the cabinets we found embalming fluid, anti-decomposition chemicals, kerosene, plus other cans and bottles. More racks in the right wing. Notice the coffins have the blankets wrapped around them. I've only ever seen that done to a casket as it's lowered into the ground... The way this casket rusted and bottomed out leads me to believe that they aren't empty... These boxes were empty. But they looked ready to use... This box wasn't quite empty... Notice the puddle beneath it. Yes, that's what you think it is. Conclusion Now I'm going to have a better response when someone asks me, "Have you ever found a dead guy?". Hopefully, this will be the spookiest place I'm in for a while. I was surprised to not find anyone living in here, as I imagine an underground structure with pillow-top boxes in it would be rather comfortable. (Thanks to Dan for the information on the place and all the pictures that didn't suck!) In the interests of being respectful to those still resting in this building, I won't be adding this to the DB or putting any identifying information in this thread. If you're in the region and are interested in seeing this place, PM me.
