| | St. Paul Labyrinth Map < on 6/10/2011 1:05 AM >
| | | Hi all, I've been having some fun recently trying to decipher the Labyrinth Map at: http://www.actions...rinth/MainMap.html I have never and may never explore there, but it was fun enough reading the stories and seeing the pics that I felt it'd be cool to have a better idea of the structure.
Anyone know of any other similar public maps, preferably without everything spelled out ?
I wouldn't want to spoil anyone's fun, so I'd prefer nobody post anything too explicit, but....
So yes there is a "trick" to "mapping" that map to a street map. I figured this trick was possible from the start, but got stuck for a while because two adjacent shapes matched well between maps. Now, with the trick applied, just about everything else looks right.
I see there are some "symbols" there for caves and similar. I think I've figured out 1 or 2 of the color codings, but the rest are still a mystery to be solved.

I'm sorry, but I don't think either of you understood my post. I'm not asking for help, or outright "served on a platter" information. The only question in my post was: "Anyone know of any other similar public maps, preferably without everything spelled out ?"
I specifically do NOT want any spoilers. Just perhaps a source of further clues that might help me do "armchair exploration".
There is plenty that could be discussed that wouldn't be a spoiler. Such as just the names given to the "Seven distinct yet interconnecting, tunnel systems." Or is that "protected info" too, despite that it's been plastered all over the Action Squad website for many years ? I can only clearly count 6, but perhaps the "NSP/Gas Tunnels" should be considered 2: 1) The telephone tunnels 2) The Water Main tunnels 3) NSP/Gas Tunnels 4) The maze of ancient sewer tunnels. 5) Wabasha Bridge Rooms, Caves and Tunnels. 6) TCRT Tunnels 7) ?? Cobb Caves ???
And then, there is the "trivia" that the "trick" was mentioned as a recommendation in a post in the archives of this site. I found this after a search for threads similar to this.
Anyway, if you still don't understand this thread, or disagree with it, then please feel free to have a mod delete or lock it or whatever. [last edit 6/10/2011 4:16 AM by MikeEBike - edited 1 times]

I'm sorry, but I am quite certain you didn't understand my post. Stuff "plastered all over the Action Squad website" not withstanding, there's still no need to discuss these matters openly on a public forum further plastering them all over UER. I'm going to try to not be a dick about this. I'm going to try to help you understand this all within some local context... That stuff you are reading on Action Squad is about ten years old. The stories are well-written, inspirational, and fantastically exciting to read. But they all harken back to a different era for our local exploration. A lot has changed since that time, and careless discussion of some things can inspire naive new explorers to do dumb things and get into serious trouble. For instance, there are accounts of Action Squad exploring the University of Minnesota steam tunnels. Years ago those tunnels were easy to access and explorers had free run of them once inside. Campus security took notice and installed motion detector cameras, making the entire system impossible to explore in modern times. Just a week ago a group of people got busted for exploring those tunnels, not knowing there were security devices installed. Read about it here: http://www.mndaily...s-tunnel-explorers They face very steep penalties for what was essentially harmless exploration. The Labyrinth tunnels you mention have faced even more changes. Old entrances got sealed up. Manholes got bolted down and rungs were cut from the shafts. There was a water main break a while back that flooded some tunnels causing a collapse. When the Republican National Convention came to St. Paul a few years ago, homeland security was brought in and did a revamp of security for many areas. A lot of tunnels got sealed up, old entrances were lost, and motion detectors and cameras were installed in numerous tunnels. Gatsby, a great explorer, went in anyways to check the security and he got arrested. His mugshot was on television even. This is not good. In recent times, some party kids called the "bro dudes" dug their way in to some of the abandoned labyrinth tunnel sections and started partying and tagging. The local explorers united and made a tough decision. They chose to permanently seal up that tunnel section with fortified concrete for the greater good, even though it cost us all our last entrance to tunnels. We don't need another bro dude incident. Those tunnels are sealed up, and even if you could get in there would be good chances you'd get arrested by going by a security camera. That is why this doesn't need more discussion here on the public forums. Adding more maps with hints for the sake of your armchair exploring will incite more foolhardy people to either cause vandalism or get busted. Inspiring new people to get hurt or arrested is just bad news. When I said take it to PMs I meant take this discussion to private messages. If you want to talk about maps and stuff, send Slim Jim a private message. He drew the original Action Squad map way back in the day, and he's the most brilliant map reader/maker I've ever known. If maps are your thing, you'll find a kindered spirit in discussing them with Slim Jim.

OK, I can understand your points.
But if I agreed with you, I would also say that these forums and the DB and EVERYTHING else on the "interwebs" should be removed, shut down, and burned because some idjut somewhere will hurt himself or whatever. Whatever. I have no interest in arguing, and please don't take the above as harsh... Thanks for the Slim Jim pointer. So, so be it, thread should be closed. Public discussion over. Thanks for your confirmation Slim Jim. Yes, I can see the giraffe with the adjacent "A's" for legs, and he is clearly laughing at me. ;)
