Edmonton is great for UE.... specially missile silo sites. Just need to know where to look.

| | | Thanks, didn't realize it was broken... Thankfully I got into that super secret missile silo before it got torn down. It was pristine while there, power was still on too.

| | | Posted by Capt Canada Yes rather close indeed! Although it looks easy from a distance, the outfall can be rather tricky and probably deadly should your fingers slip.
|
Yeah,I wonder what the outfalls are like in the west end of this city?I have been to places like Crestwood and the surrounding communities to scout for them, but they are pretty dinky.

North Saskatchewan is where its at.. don't waste you're time with tributaries. Take a friend or two. I will warn you... if you find this place... be careful as that pool of water is deep enough for you to drown.

| | | This is a great site. Edmonton rocks for draining. I have a question though. The camera above Rat Creek, does it work? I am planning a mission and saw that. I just don't want to be surrounded on the way out ya know. There are a few nice outfalls all along the river, and lots of really small ones. Industrial, hmmmm..... The Esso Plant might be fun. | | | Ya I was checking out the storm drains along the river too- just waiting for it to all finish thawing. I've only done one edmonton drain thus far, and hope these ones are a little more interesting.

Your right, they do need to thaw a little more eh. Telephoneman, would you consider hitting that afformentioned drain again with me? I am kind of a noob, but it would be great to learn the ropes from someone with some experience. I have some pics from my travels yesterday, but I can't seem to post them. When I figure it out I'll put them up here. [last edit 3/31/2010 6:18 PM by snide_tripod - edited 2 times]

There are tons of abondoned houses around the city. Just get in your car and drive out of the city a ways, turn down a gravel road and hopefully you won't have to go too far. I used to do this when I lived out of town in a small community. Tons of old farm houses and outbuildings. Be carefull though. Steel toes and shanks are a must.

Here they are. Not very good. My camera battery was drained (no pun intended) so I hade to use my phone.
Like you said, still to much ice and blockage
Gate pic. Hmmmmmm.
this outflow smelled of petrol. Not a good one to go into, but it might lead somewhere interesting

| | | I've got a couple of friends I used to do small town exploring with, who might be interested in some draining excursions after the thaw. We hit the drain by that bridge the grout goes over last year, and there were some cool infiltration tags in there. Ill get in touch with them. Also- I think its the mill creek forest area, but theres a pretty big tunnel with a gate and manhole access running along the forest path. Couldn't find an exit for all the water going into it, so theres some potential there im thinking.

The Mill Creek hole drains into the river I believe. It's the outfall you can see from the James Mc'Donald bridge. There are some photos of it further up the thread. A guy wearing rubber boots I believe. The other one with the three people in it is thunder road I think. I know where that one is, but never been.

| | | Mill Creek You were probably looking at this from the other side.
The outside, just after a brief thunderstorm.
Another large infall further up creek
With a very deep pit (maybe 10 meters)
Flow monitoring (topside)
If you do find the outfall, you'll be risking death or very serious injury should you lose grip. There are many drains in Edmonton that are far more interesting, easier to get to and much safer than this. Big long and boring.

| | | Heading out again today, to the North side. Hopefully I find something that is not blocked by ice. Those are some nice pics Capt. I have heard that the outfall is treacherous, but I need to see it with my own eyes. Maybe after some more experience.! I want to do Rat Creek, but I am leery about the camera pointing at you the whole way up. It's a little un-nerving since there's no way to tell if your gonna get busted on the way out. Oh well, I guess thats what this business is all about eh!

| | | Ya thats the outfall I was looking at. Im interested in thunder road, does it drain right into the river? What area is it in? Also i've been looking for anything a bit more interesting that a straight tunnel. My friend got to me a couple days ago with some information on some tunnels around the university area. Almost for sure high risk- but I wouldn't be surprised if we could get some cool pictures/exploring done without getting caught.

I've done Rat Creek too... It stinks, a lot. When the sanitary sewers over flow they pour into Rat Creek. I'm not a big fan of walking in shit. But I did wonder up it once. If there is any chance of a decent amount of flow, stay out. There is a section of the drain, when flow is low, that collects the storm water and directs it into the sanitary drain. This is why you won't see any water flowing out the outfall unless there has been a big storm or something. If you were to slip and fall down that hole, god knows what would happen. Otherwise, its a pretty short, big, smelly drain. Thunder Road is easy, but be cautious of the pool at the end. Another drainer almost drown in it.
