T looks about right for an incinerator site.

Where is the mortuary located ?

I've never seen a mortuary and I've been in almost every part of the main building where it probably would be. I havn't been inside the loading dock however, so if there is one it could possibly be there.

I bet T is an incinerator. Springfield has a similar place....it is way, away from the rest of the buildings...over by Sunnyside. Check for an update.

Thing is, if "T" was an incinerator you'd think there would be an obvious road so vehicles could get to it. I haven't seen all of the grounds but I don't remember seeing any obvious path out the back of the garage that would have led out in that direction. More likely, if there was an incinerator it would have been in the powerplant building and shared the smokestack.

I don't remember seeing a road leading their either, but if you look closely you can see what appears to be some sort of little path in the woods inbetween T and the main complex.

Could just be a space inbetween the trees though...

The road to the one in springfield would not be visible either.....it is just a mud path.

oh and credit to tc, I have never seen a gallery set up like this. Awesome.

In the UK at least, it's against regulations for a boiler system and an incinerator to share the same smokestack.

Not sure about NE though.

As for the theory that the mortuary could be in or near the loading docks, that would make a lot of sense for the coroners / undertakers meat wagon to pull up for loading / unloading bodies.

The loading dock is, naturally, the only part of the main building I have yet to explore... I have yet, however, to hear of anyone finding a mortuary at Henryton.

The morgue certainly isn’t anywhere else. I can’t imagine that they didn’t have one; just leaving TB ridden bodies out in the open does not seem like a good plan….
Roland, what is wrong with loading docks?(Questioning the use of "naturally")

A hospital without a mortuary is to a car park with no parking space. You don't come across them... ever.

Could the mortuary have been demolished though ? We see that now and again in the UK - or the room / building so well stripped as to be unrecognisable!

When I said naturally I meant the only place I havn't been is of course the one place where the morgue probably is. It's possible that one of the basement rooms was once a morgue but in general Henryton is very well preserved and lots of stuff is left behind.

thanks, msb - and after looking at your springfield incinerator picture, I guess it's possible that's what is or used to be over at "T".

This organization charts rocks! Excellent job

Roland, funny how that seems to happen....coolest things are the last place you look.
A lot of stuff is left in henryton...including a stocked fallout shelter.
When I get a chance, I am going to reorganize springfield to have parts linked.

If it is indeed there... it'll be a couple weeks before I get a chance to check it out.

Quite a thread. But its quite possible that there is no mortuary. It certainly had one when it was a TB hospital, but it was probably converted to something else when it changed roles. Lots of hospitals don't have mortuaries.. rehab hospitals for example, have no real need for one.

OK, went to henryton the other day "T" is just a small (modern) power station with a fence around it. Nothing interesting. I will post pictures in my gallery when I finish and develop the roll.

I did some research at the Carroll County Historical Society today, I can tell you that building "I" was the children's building.

  Where?
Posted by Roland 5/2/2005 6:07 AM | remove
Right near "N" on the map, actually in the kitchen. Check out my most recent gallery if you havn't yet.
