I definitely don't appreciate the tagging. The cabinets on the right were for breakers that would have connected a busbar (behind the cabinets) to a generator or a really large load, like a boiler feed pump motor. These breakers could switch megawatts of load and had springs that would wind themselves up so as to fire the contacts rapidly into place or into disconnect position. There were also gates between the breaker and the busbar that would slam shut to extinguish electrical arcs. You didn't want to stand in front of one of these cubicles when a breaker would activiate -- if there was a major electrical fault the resultant explosion would push the breaker out the front of the cabinet and right through you. Typical procedure was to stand to the side and "reach around" to throw the handle that activated the thing.

at the local disconnects where I work (paper mill), we still stand to the side of a box and throw switches. We don't fuck around with disconnects!
