The last time I got sick was after a winter trip to National lead and the chemistry lab. It was of course cold, but I got sick for weeks after that, and I've got something nasty brewing now, thought it was allergies. Hmm , I wonder. Probably just circumstantial.

that really doesn't look like a room where you would ideally store barrels full of mystery chemicals... did any of these barrels have labels?

At the Delco plant in Rochester someone uncovered a large store of similiar barrels that lead to a massive hazmat cleanup operation. At least the stuff was removed before the arsonists hit it!

If you were in a power plant and find barrels that seem to be from the same era as the plant, then chances are they are boiler water treatment chemicals. Boiler operators must keep an eye on their water chemistry to prevent damage to the boiler.
