Wow...I'd forgotten about this place. Every summer in the 80's, my parents took my brother and I to Lake George on vacation, and this is one of the places we used to go. On this fence here, around 1989 or so, while we were up there, we heard a news story about a boy who was trying to climb over it and impaled himself on it when he slipped.

Yeah , lots of parks like this closed; here the owner is still loaded, he got out at the right time; he unleashed Frontier town, Gaslight, enchanted forest, and others. The genius behind the design was Art Monaco, a guy with Hollywood connections, who just died.

there was an excellent article on Arto in a 2001 issue of Adirondack Life. The guy was amazing. As a kid, I remember that Gaslight Village was supposed to be an amusement park for adults. Kind of a place between The Enchanted Forest and Storytown (now The Great Escape). It's funny, back on July 4, 1998, we were riding these go-karts having a great time before the fireworks. I was in Lake George last weekend for the Adirondack Nationals (think big street rod/car show) and drove right by this. It is the loneliest piece of real estate in all of Lake George.

The propery has to worth a mint; at least 2 acres, butting right up against the "million dollar mile"; hidden now by trees and Fort Will Henry; I still want to call the realtor to ask what they want for the property.

Holy shit; never would have guessed that, although it's a huge lot right in the village, I guess that makes sense; I think old Charlie Wood is probably no dummy; he held out and has made his money.

I'm curious what will come of the place now that Mr. Wood has passed...

Yeah that was too bad, he was a hell of a philanthropist. But I guess he was due at 90 years old.
