  There's a place called Calypso in the local mall that sells all kinds of stuff, this operator's switchboard would go for $650 there.

  Mainly because it's a state park guarded by rangers and also because of the "Bodie curse" story that is heavily circulated which states that anyone who steals an artifact from the town will suffer constant bad luck until they return said artifact.

  That's always a good idea... if you want to keep people from stealing from places like this, start the rumor about a curse, and blame a few local deaths on it.
