I see art potential in this shot. Make him look mad and put up some tesla coils and a vandegraf generator or two.
Although it does look like he is examining a half of a hard boiled egg.

Where did you find this picture?

I'm pretty sure it was from the Whitby Archives. I wonder which building it would be?

He's probably whipping up a quick batch of Acid or MDMA. Those wacky, zany doctors of the time!!! :-D

I was in the whitby archives...do you mean that archives or the archives of the WPH in the new Whitby Mental Health Centre.
I have gone through both of those places and never did see this picture. I would love to use it in my book, but need to make sure it is really a picture taken at the WPH.
So, if anyone-including the person who posted the pictures-could let me know exactlly where you found the pictures, that would be awesome!

  That's Dr. Charles Best. http://www.cbc.ca/greatest/greatcanadians/b.html
But is it really the WPH?

doubtful. I think that Meg needs to prove herself here and now to legitimize her findings.

  I completley agree!
I mean if I had a photo like that-that was truly of the WPH-then I would yell it from my roof top! What a find!
Megs, you need to be proud of it-if it is truly from WPH
Don't pretend it is something when it isn't.!
We are all interested!
We won't steal it for goodness sakes!
So share....

Well..maybe I will investigate. You are right-it is Charles Best-thank you for that Techno Ted.
I will do some digging when I am at the Whitby psych's archives next time. They have lists and lists and lists of doctors.
I will keep you all posted!
(even you Meg!)

Ok guys this is the deal: a ue friend of mine found this picture and emailed it to me a while back. I was so excited so of course it is posted so that all of you could see it. I never once questioned the legitimacy of the picture--until now because all of you guys are. So Nellie please keep me posted because if it's not from wph, I will be VERY angry at this person for making me look insincere.

  Oh for sure Megs.
I hope we didn't make you upset...I just want to be really clear that it is from the WPH-you know?
I hope you understand.
I am glad that you see that it is so iimportant to make sure things are either legitimate or they are authenticated. Especially for me...I can't write "crap" or "lies" in my book.
Thank you for thinking more about it and where your friend got the picture from.
I will most certainly let you know.
What does the friend say about it? Have you questioned him/or her about where they got the picture?

I am a bit suspicious right now because the same picture is on the website that someone else posted....How uncanny is it that your friend sent you the same picture of a famous doctor-and thes ame picture is on a website all about famous historians? Mmmm...interesting!

I have emailed my Microbiology teacher who taught us all about the doctor. I asked her if she knows of anyway I can find out if he visited or worked at WPH.
See, Charoles Best was a researching doctor, not a psychiatrist! So..I am suspicious.

I will let you know what she says!

Keep us posted if you find out anything!

Oh meg: Did you get your other pictures also from the same friend?

Posted by Megs 4/20/2004 2:30 AM | remove
Reallllllly. That makes me more suspicious as well. This "friend" is only someone I correspond with online and I haven't seen her online in a while, but I plan to confront her when I do, that is when you find out whether it's from wph or not. Please pm me if you find out anything at all

Yeah...t.hat would bug me as well!
I will let you know as soon as I get some info from my teacher...and from the archives!
