This is the balcony in the gym. This could not be accessed from the ground floor. It's entrance was off the main lobby on the first floor. The squares of different colored paint originally were where pictures of varsity sports teams from the 1920s through 1950s were. They were taken down, and I have no idea where they are now. Notice that there is a door dividing the balcony. This is because there was an electric moving wall in the middle, so if the gym was divided in two, the audience could be too. This was removed in the 1980s.

Strange that when they painted the walls a different color they didn't take the pictures down and paint behind them. Did they really just paint around the pictures?

I believe the pictures were nailed into the wall to prevent them falling. But still, they could easily unscrew them. I suppose they were just lazy or had to get the job done fast.

i remember when my dad was doing school maintenance (he was a computer programmer and when he retired wanted somthing to keep him occupied) they used to paint at night and leave the room off limits 2 days, it had to be done fast, they didnt want to pay overtime in the summer for painting.

That makes sense. I wasn't trying to give the maintainence crews a rough time, just the wealthier administration in town don't want to give them a dime for their work, so understandably they don't do an excellent job in our town.
