It was a very new style of design for the time, mixing new design features and technology into a more traditional overall design to fit in with the town's history. The auditorium complex, in my opinion, was a work of art. Also, something different about it is that it was used right up until the end. I can remember sitting in class as they started taking out valuable things and they even took out our chalkboard during a lecture.

Well, if you wanted to see the 1969 part, or the new part, you'd have to get pass the secretaries. And they can be nasty about issuing visitor's passes.

Tolerance for screaming children, if you decide to check out the newer parts, which I don't recommend.

During 1945, the war had ended and Bridgewater had to replace its High School. They had a new building designed, and construction began in 1950. When it was completed and opened in September 1952, it was a world of firsts for the town of Bridgewater. It had a hot lunch program, providing "delicious and nutricious" lunch to every student for 25 cents. It also had a state-of-the-art auditorium and gymnasium. However, 10 years later, the town had a population explosion, and signed on with neighboring town Raynham to regionalize and build a new high school, completed in 1961. The old Bridgewater High School was turned into M.G. Williams Junior High SChool, named after the late Mr. Williams who had served on the Bridgewater School Commitee for many years. Eight years later, in 1969, an elementary school addition was constructed. Thereafter, grades kindergarten-8 were all housed under one roof. The 1970s were a prosperous decade for the building. However, the 1980s resulted in budget cuts and a lack of maintinence, causing the school to slip into disrepair. After a failed renovation effort in the mid-90s, the new Bridgewater Elementary School was constructed. The Junior High now housed grades 5-8. Alas, a mere 4 years later, a controversy came about which would spell the end for the Junior High. New school commitee members were appointed, and turned out to be in it just for corporate gain. They all owned contracting companies, and decided that they were going to milk the town for all its worth. They had asbestos testing, and the results proved positive, however this is controversial since the commitee members' companies ran the tests. Nevertheless, a new system was agreed upon, and a new high school was constructed, which will be completed sometime in 2007. The old high school, which was constructed in 1961, is being transformed into the new Junior High. Sadly for the original Junior High, it was being demolished to make way for a new building. The 1969 side of the building is being kept however, to be renovated and incorporated into the new building, which will house grades 3-5. As for the other elementary school, it will house grades K-2.

As said, it has now been demolished and the new structure is completed. If you want to see the new building, check out the school's construction update page: http://www.bridge-...uilding/photos.htm
