Looking across to the south side of the river. The old pavement is underneath the brush on the right side of the pic.

About 20 years ago a county cop was chasing a crook; the crook turned off to the boat ramp and the cop continued until he ran out of road and went down that bank into the river. Yup...it really happened.

my favorite sign (and I have a picture of this in my photo album) is on the Washington Ferry bridge (TN Route 30) going over into Meigs County from Rhea County. The old Route 30 used to end at a ferry dock. Well the TDOT thought they needed a little extra warning to motorist unwilling to cross the new bridge... ROAD ENDS IN RIVER 300FT... I always laugh when I see this picture.
