We call them doocots, though that might be a Scottish thing.

There are two common thoughts on function of this odd round room with high conical roof, ventilated at the top, and odd round windows. First is a private chapel as the house was built for and originally inhabited by a Minister. Second is kitchen quarters, due to high windows, roof ventilation and easy access to the scullery. The few people I have spoken to who lived here in the 1970's don't recall the use of the room. :(

We call them 'doocots' because it's Scottish pronunciation for 'dovecot' which is the correct English name for it.
And this is wayyyy too big and close to the dwelling I would have thought. It looks awesome none the less!!
