c/x/y/ is syntax carried over into modern messaging from early line-editing software. Translated, it means, "in the referenced section, change x to y." Line-editing software was used before the invention of WYSIWYG full-screen editing software. Software was used to communicate with computers before man/machine interfaces became so blurred that we all became internetworked cyborgs.
