The Surrey Public Market is one large building, two levels. Lower level is the parkade, open on the sides. Upper level is a big, open floor-plan market, much like a big warehouse but designed to have more character. It's been abandoned for a while, securely boarded up and guarded, but over the last couple years(?) has it gone to the dogs. A section of the market used to bridge the creek, but this has been demolished and the creek's banks restored. This creek has a small drain pipe that is big enough to enter.

The parkade is covered with graffitti, lots of it very good. The building itself is interesting because it's a new commercial project that was abandoned, but never re-opened or re-purposed, which is rare in the lower mainland. Traces of the original market still exist, despite the vandalism.

http://vancouveris...rey-public-market/ Designed by Chandler/Kennedy Architecture in 1990, the Surrey Public Market, located at 64th and King George Blvd (then, Hwy), was envisioned to be the ultimate local market destination for residents of Surrey and surrounding communities.

Demolition seems imminent, although the building is structurally sound and of somewhat recent construction. Hopefully it will be cleaned up and re-used instead of demolished. October 2016 update : surrey has approved plans to bulldozed the market and replace it with 36 apartments and 40 townhouses
