The plant where it currently stands originally opened as DeVilbiss in 1986. DeVilbiss originally started back in 1888 when Dr. Allen DeVilbiss developed an 'atomizer' that we now know as a sprayer and which was originally meant for the health care industry. It didn't take very long for it to be recognized as an effective method to apply paints and various coatings which was quickly adopted by Ford and other companies. Of course the process needed to be safe and contained for it to be more efficient, which lead to the birth of spray booths. Of course it didn't take very long for other companies to follow in their footsteps. In 1990, DeVilbiss was acquired by ITW, a tool manufacturer based in Chicago, and so the Barrie plant became ITW Canada. Then in 1998, Blowtherm USA purchased the DeVilbiss spray booth division from ITW and the plant changed ownership yet again and was rebranded under the name Team Blowtherm. Finally, in 2003, Team Blowthern (USA) merged with JBI, another spray booth manufacturer, to form Global Finishing Solutions. In 2005, the Curran Group became the sole owners of Global Finishing Solutions and in October of that same year, the company closed down the plant in Barrie to move it's operations to Mexico, terminating it's entire workforce. The plant portion has been demolished but the offices are still standing and have been for a few weeks so they may be spared.
